I know I might not get many answers to this, but I was wondering if anyone had read this book and what they thought of it as a satire?

Here are some quotes to help out:

"Now we've got a truth to die for!"
"No. Men should die for lies. But the truth is too precious to die for."

"The figures looked more or less human. And they were engaged in religion. You could tell by the knives (it's not murder if you do it for a god)."

"All holy piety in public, and all peeled grapes and self-indulgence in private."

"The trouble with being a god is that you've got no one to pray to."

Yes, though it's been a while since I've read it.

To me, the thing about all the gods vying for more followers because that's what gives them more power hits home - it doesn't mean that the other gods don't exist, it's just that because of the relative popularity of them, they don't have as much say.

Some other fun quotes:

"He says gods like to see an atheist around. Gives them something to aim at."

"Why do you bother with him? He's had thousands of people killed!" "Yes, but perhaps he thought that you wanted it."

"I used to think that I was stupid, and then I met philosophers."

OK, I'll admit I haven't read the book. But I really love these quotes! And I think I want to read it. :)

I believe the truth is too precious to die for. Life is too precious.

As for the satirical element, I love 'It's not murder if you do it for a god'. Sort of describes why I'm *not* into organized religion. *grin*

I LOVE Terry Pratchetts books, He is just so irreverant on any subject. He takes written sarcasm to its highest art form. The only writer who comes close is Spider Robinson.

There are extremely some alterations right here. Sir Terry Pratchett has Alzheimers ailment, which for some bloody stupid reason, probable gross lack of expertise, is an ailment that includes alot of stigma. What he's making an attempt to do is help to get rid of that "stupid previous sod" stigma linked with Alzheimers ailment. is reasonably, Sir Terry Pratchett has no longer lengthy gone out of his way previous to now, to get himself on television, or courtroom publicity. He has been extremely chuffed to jot down his books, post them, and then go away it at that. What Jade Goody is doing is making an attempt to drum up as a lot funds as she will be able to, to go away to her youthful family individuals. i do not truly see something incorrect with that both. Terry Pratchett became favourite for being an truly proficient and prolific author, and his Discworld Novels are loved international huge. He has been knighted for his facilities to literature, and is one among Britains maximum loved authors. i'm no longer having a pass at Jade for what she is doing at present. Its the proper ingredient she will be able to do for her toddlers, and it is not any longer as if i have never any sympathy for Jade and her family individuals. My father died of maximum cancers purely over a twelve months in the past. yet I frequently have doubts about the society we stay in, even as human beings like Jade change into favourite contained in the first position. Her unique declare to attractiveness replaced into her brilliant lack of commonly used expertise. She looked as if it would thrill audiences with surely daft questions, and doing stupid issues because she knew no extra ideal. Then even as the race row over huge Brother erupted, it replaced into Jade who were given slaughtered. is reasonably, she did bully Shilpa Shetty, yet even as it got here to racist feedback, she replaced into the least in charge out of the three who also ganged up on the Bollywood actress. it type of feels to me that she replaced into ultimately placed on a pedestal to have the p!ss taken out of her, and then replaced into surely taken to the cleaners, on the first chance. it is the the reason why Jade Goody favourite that i hit upon to be vulgar, no longer Jade herself.
