UnfortunateIy, credit reporting is not an exact science. I paid off a credit card account and my score shot up 45 points. I took out a new mortgage and it was not reported onto my credit for 6 months, during that time my score dropped 65 points without any late payments or credit inquires. It did rebound finally and was corrected before I had to contact the bureaus.

Well paying off your credit card will not instantly be reflected on your credit report. It might take 30-90 days before your payment history is reflected on your report. It all depends how often your credit card company reports that info to the credit reporting agency. I wish it were so easy to just pay off your debt and your score goes up. There are so many factors calculated into your score.

Just make sure your do not make the most common mistakes why trying to improve your credit score. Read this article to learn what NOT to do.... http://www.creditfamily.com/articles/mistake-close-credit-card.asp

It will increase your credit score but it may not show up for a few billing cycles.
There's no law on how quickly the creditors have to report it. (some creditors don't work with some credit reporting agencies and thus some never report it paid).
The best adivce is to wait about 6 weeks or so and get a free copy of your report. If it is not there, call the creditor and ask to make certain they report the debt paid. Then call the CRAs and ask them to show it paid.

I'm pretty sure credit is reported to the credit bureau once a month if I'm not mistaken...call them and ask to make sure.
