Where is "around here" where APBT`s are killing people and children every day? Must be a place you made up like your knowledge of dogs? Please let us know where it is. Respect my neighbor? See how they feel about me getting a dog ? Sure and they can pay the vet bills, help with training, food and shelter etc.
Just read and do a lot of research and then decide if the breed is what you want and for whatever purpose. Apbt`s require a ton of attention and need lots exercise so let it be a factor in making your decision.

The main things with pits is that there are alot of idiots in this world who believe media lies and will try their best to hurt your dog to make it bite.
Pits are actually wonderful dogs to have with kids, elderly, strangers any human they will basically adore.
They must be socialized with other dogs but this is easily done and once they know they are supposed to be friends with other dogs you will never have any problems.
Main thing to know, is do not believe any media lies, a pitbull is safer to own then a labrador or any hunting breed, they do require alot of exercise can get heat stressed and other then that they make great pets.
A northern bred pit will have a more social temperment then a southern state bred pit as the northern breeders breed for companions and the south breeds for more guard dog, either way ,just keep it socialized as a pup and watch for the haters that will harm your dog just because it is an american breed and it seems the world hates americans these days.

I've got a friend whos got a pit - nicest dog in the world. and I've seen pits that scared the *bleep* out of me. I think a lot of it has to do with how they are raised, what they are trained for. If you're going to get one, be careful, and take time to get to know it, see how it interacts with you/your kids(if there are any), and then make a decision. You need to get to know the animal and trust that it won't do harm to anyone.

Also, take into account that *most* people are terrified of just the word "pitbull", and may not take kindly to their nieghbor bringing one home. One last thing, certain insurance companies (depending on state laws), have the right to drop your homeowner's insurance for having what they call "Aggressive Breed" dogs (pitbulls, German Shepards, Rotweilers, Dobermann's often fit into these categories, despite being some of the nicest and most intelligent breeds of dogs - IMO... it really is a matter how they are raised and treated.)

I hate the idea of any dog not having a yard or a space to play. I considered having a dog in an apartment myself at one time, but I knew I would not be responsible enough to walk it daily and take it out enough. I say no. Also, have you checked with your landlord on breed restrictions. While pitbulls may be a breed, most complexes will not allow such large dogs, or that particular breed.

They are wonderful dogs when raised right, socialized well, and trained from the start. The concern I would have is with homeowner's insurance (it will be sky-high if they take you and if you rent most apartments refuse to take "bully breeds"), and breed-specific legislation (they're banned in many cities, or else the local government requires HUGE yearly fees and really strict muzzle and leash laws). I like pits and have a lot of experience training, but for me dealing with the bureaucracy is a deterrent to ever owning one.

boy- people on here are really uneducated about pitbulls!!!!

last year there were approxamitly 56 children in this country who died as a result of a dog bite/attack-3 were pitbull related-the rest were mostly "family" friendly dogs-labradors,dalmations etc!

ive had pitbulls all my life-currently have a 3 month old!!!!all my pitbulls have been sweet and wonderful dogs.
they are very protective and loving, love to play and i have never known anyone who has had a problem with them

ANY dog has the ability to turn vicious and attck at any time for many reasons!i wish people would learn more about them and maybe spend some time with some pitbulls before JUMPING to conclusions!!

any dog is a wonderful dog when raised right!!!but when treated badly and abused ,yes they can turn on you!!! thats true for ALL dogs!!!

i was attacked by a chihuahua, and they are the most popular dogs right now!!!

I used to partially live with a guy who has a pitt bull and make sure that if you get one that you watch it closely because they have a reputation to turn on their owners. the pitt bull i know is sweet and kind and listens to her owner. train it to be nice is the bottom line and train it good

I have raised 12 pits. Now yes they can become agressive to human if you treat them badly. Never get two of different litters, they *will* fight. Pits are a very loyal breed. They can really be great dogs, but you have to be stern with them. The best advice I can give you : start letting him get around kids at a young age that way he wont get pissed when they play too rough. If its a protecter you want and by that I mean he wont let *any one * around you unless you do, get one. When you train him, Be strong, dont let him push you around ( they can, trust me).Good luck.

yes i do have one. they are good dogs with a bad reputation. it all depends on how the owner raises the dog, yes they have a tendency to be aggressive, but if you work with the dog correctly it has the potential of being just as loving and sweet as any dog. sometimes getting them around young children is not always the best because they have a tendency to also be a bit rough when they play. hope that helps :)

You should know that pit bulls are known to KILL people under certain conditions. If you get one I hope you will be responsible. Your friend's pitbull who is sweet might still attack under the right circumstances. Just be careful.
