I have a 7 month old Kitten. He usually uses the litter box but I have been having problems with him lately. It seems that he will go in the box for the first day or so after I empty it but won't after that. Is he just picky? It is starting to be really expensive to have to buy that much litter to change the box every 2 days. Has anyone ever hear of this?

dont completely change the litter every day...just scoop it out...he should use it more often then. just change the litter maybe once a week or so, but scoop it out everyday. sometimes cat's like consistancy. they appreciate the brand new litter, but also just like to go where they've been before. if you notice him peeing more frequently and not in the box...check with your vet. he might have a urinary tract infection, or something like that.

Yes, I had a cat who wouldn't use the box if there was any waste in it. I had to scoop it every time he used it or he would go on the floor next to it. The entire box had to be changed every 3 days too, but I started adding baking soda and that made the litter last longer.

I would recommend you use the best scoopable litter you can find, put only a thin layer in the box and add more daily. Add a little baking soda to the box every other day. And scoop it at least twice a day. I hope that helps.

Good luck!

Don't change the entire box. Use a litter like Fresh Step or some other clumping litter, and be sure to sift out the droppings EVERY day with a litter scoop. He's probably just not hip on going in a dirty box (would YOU want to use a toilet that was never flushed??).

You might also consider getting a Litter Maid cat box - it cleans the droppings out with every use and puts them in a holding bin for you to remove. Sanitary and neat.

You don't have to completely change the litter everyday normally. My cat she had a few accidents when we first brought her home, but other than she is fine. You could try just scooping out the clumps and see if he will still go in the litter box instead of keep changing it. Use a thinner layer of litter so that you don't have to use so much and it might also help him. I hope this helps.

yes my male cat wouldn't go in the litter box unless it was cleaned everyday, so yes picky, try getting the litter that clumps right away and use the scooper it saves litter. I saw someone put to get one of those Litter Maids, I'm not to sure on this but I do know my friend had one and got rid of it, she said it started cleaning before her cat was done, plus since it's only a kitten it may scare him. You could try it though.

A cat will not use a litter box that he thinks is not clean enough. Try putting a thinner layer of litter or use the scoopable litter to cut down on the expense.

Just make sure the litter box is clean at all times. If that doesn''t work - maybe try another brand of litter. Good luck!

boys get uti's occassionally and when they gets them they associate the pain from the infections with the litterbox so they go other places. take him to the vet to get it checked for that. otherwise it might be behavioral.
