One more time I am really perturbed that you all are taking my dream fights. I wish these guys had fought in real life to settle this discussion. Olivares was possibly the best bantam wt. of all time and Gomez was the greatest super bantam wt. and both would be ranked high as feather wts. Both were great punchers Gomez 88% and Olivares 80%. Gomez only had 48 bouts whereas Olivares had 104. This would provide Olivares with his edge. Olivares in 14 but it would take Gomez's corner to stop the fight.

Great possibilities in this fight. Olivares, the most popular Mexican fighter of all time, versus an all-time Puerto Rican great!
Olivares was a hammer. A true pug. Champion many times. The champion of the campesino. Pipino Cuevas adored him and more so, so did Humberto Gonzalez. But I'm going out on a limb and picking Gomez. He was 8 pounds over and had to sweat it off when he lost to Sanchez. He was dehydrated! But he annihilated Pintor. He amazing fight with Lockridge, in San Juan, despite the controversy, proves Gomez could fight in incredible heat. At many weights. Ring magazine ranked him as the 13th hardest puncher of all time!!!!! And he had an 88% K.O. ratio, much higher than Olivares's. Gomez would win!!!!

That would have been a great fight, both were short but explosive. There was a time when Gomez was considered to be the most destructive puncher of his generation and Ruben only had howitzers in his arsenal. So it would have been like the battle of the Z boys. Whoever connected would have won.

One heckuva fight! This one would come down to a battle of wills. Both fighters had good punching power and would land thunderous punches on each other. My pick is Olivaries by a split decision.
