I recently moved into a new house. It had been freshly painted but after a week or so I thought I smelled cat urine in the closet. One day I ran into a neighbor who told me that the woman who lived there before had four cats - one of which had a real spraying problem -he sprayed all over the house. There are a few corners I've noticed a faint scent but the only one that really bothers me is the closet. I think it is making my clothes smell! I washed the inside of the closet but it still smells. The closet opens up to an attic crawl space - I can tell the cat went in there because there are paint paw prints...there is exposed insulation in there so I can't really climb in there and scrub everything. Any ideas? Thanks!

a UV light will show where the smell is coming from (it will glow). Then you can take an enzyme-odor-neutralizer and soak the area.

to locate the place where there is cat pee....use a black light...the urine illuminates under them. this will tell you right where it's coming from. sometimes if it's been there for so long, the best thing to do it rip out the carpet AND pad and replace it. the urine soaks through carpet and gets imbedded into the pad underneath it. it can also damage wood if there is wood underneath the pad. if it's on the walls, try something like mr clean, or a multipurpose cleaner. don't use bleach on cat urine though. the combination of the ammonia in the urine and the chlorine in bleach make a gas that if inhaled can make you REALLY sick.

If the floor is a few thing like tiles you are able to bathe it there and then, soak it up with tissues and such...If this is carpet and detachable, stick it in the showering gadget (as long because it is not too vast!) and draw close it on the line...If no longer, get the bowl of disinfectant and cleansing soap, a sponge, and a few gloves...and remember approximately the clothing peg on your nostril! (word: Carpet cleaners like what you in all risk used deposit water into the floor, soak it lower back as much as dry it...meaning any airborne dirt and dirt would be deposited around the residing house from different places...they do no longer artwork for me. i does no longer advise them for issues that're incredibly grimy like cat pee. Do it with the aid of hand whilst this is sparkling for the main suitable effects!!)

There is a light, a black light, you can purchase at petsmart or maybe some other store. It shows where the urin is, then you can treat it with an enzyme cleaner. You might have to pretreat it with a vinegar solution if the area was washed with detergent.
Hope this gets it done for you!

Shampoo the carpets with a mixture that contains amonia. you could also sprinkle it with baking soda first and let it set for awhile..the vacuum it up....as far as the attic...set one of the boxes of baking soda like you would put in your refridgerator to help draw the smell in.

You can get a black light. When you turn out all the lights and turn on the black light, the pee stain will glow and you will be able to locate your source.
