Today is my 16th birthday and my mom lives out of town and she hasn't even called me to say happy birthday. My boyfriend and I got in a huge fight this morning and I was supposed to be getting a car today that my grandmother is buying me but now I have to wait til Monday. I am a good kid and I am not materialistic, its just the thought that I look for in a gift, but my father also hasn't got me anything, not even a card. I have been crying my eyes out all day and I have sat at home by myself with no calls from my family. Do you think I am overreacting or do I have a right to be this upset?

I think that you have every right to be upset if neither your mother nor your father has called to wish you happy birthday. I don't think that you should be pset about not recieveing a gift, a happy birthday is a gift enough.

Sure you can be a little upset. B-days are a bit of a big deal, even more so 16th. And i'd say any guy who does not get that(and would get into a fight with you today), does not deserve to be your BF.

You should note the day is not over yet. Everyone still has a couple hours to pull something off and supprise you.

Oh....and Happy Birthday.

You have every right to be pissed, but honey, think of all the kids in the world who NEVER get sh*t for their birthdays, or anyday. You may think you got it bad, but there is always someone who got it much worse. Remember that. It is just another day, just so happens to be your birthday. It will come and go like every other day. You are very lucky to have parents.

Why don't you call your mom to see what she has to say about her not calling you today. It might make you feel better. As for a card from your dad, a card is just paper. It won't last forever, but your dad will be there for a long time. Give him a call too. Lucky you have a granny to buy you a car.

I am 24, parents are both dead, mom since I was 8 from a car crash, dad since 2004 from a drug overdose. My granny raised me but treats me like sh*t. I still don't have a car. You are very lucky. Thank GOD for what you have.

Happy Birthday! Mine was Saturday.

I'm sorry sugar...I'm sure that would all be upsetting...your 16th birthday is a big deal, and you've not had a good day at all...hopefully your family will come through for you...are there any friends you have that you can spend some time with and make the day enjoyable?

Take care of you...and Happy Birthday...I hope the day ends much brighter for you than it is now...

Don't cry sweetie :( That makes me sad. Happy Birthday! Just thank God he blessed you to be here, healthy and WITH family another year. We are all human and sometimes people forget, . Don't be too proud to pick up the phone and remind people. You'll be surprised at the response. My birthday was Monday I only got one card from my sister. But I spent the day before with my family celebrating. Some of my friends forgot others didn't. I don't hold it against them, I love them! As far as the car, you're still getting it so don't trip. Be thankful you have people in your life who will do that for you.

Many Blessings! = )

I know that you are upset not to be acknowledged on your "big day". My 18th was similar, but things do get better. I doubt your parents have forgotten you, after all they were there when you were made. I hope that you have a good birthday and don't let hard feelings lead to bad choices.
As for the boyfriend ... tell him roses will help you recover from your argument.

HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO YOU SWEETIE!

well i think you have the right to be upset and i too woul dbe overreacting. the dissapointment of having to wait for your car [the only thing you might have been looking foreward to] and the fact that your support system on a very special day has brought you down. so don't think you don't have the right to be overreacting, because your bf obviously isn't a good one for making your special day worse than it is. and your parents .. just give them a chance. there's still time.

aww happy birthday! humm yes i think you have a right to be upset because it dosnt seem like the people in your life are being very considerate. but is it possible that they are planning something for later? U have a right to be upset but that dosnt mean that u should take advantage of that right. Try and find something to be happy about. it is ur birthday afterall who wants to spend it upset?
