The Hawley retainer can be adjusted if needed. The clear retainer cannot. If you forget to wear the clear retainer for a few days, it may not fit or may be extremely tight when you put it in because there is zero tolerance for tooth movement.

Whoever gave you the answer about food getting stuck in your retainer.... you take it out when you eat.

Clear Essix retainer, hands down! Think about it, the Hawley retainer has a wire across your front teeth. They will hold the teeth from moving front and back also sideways. But they do not hold them from moving up and down. In addition, Hawley retainers need more frequent check ups compared to clear retainers. More importantly my patients love them because they are invisible and they do not lisp like they do with Hawley

It depends on your situation and you should just use what your dentist provides. If you have bene given a choice, ask the pros and cons of each.

The clear retainer will wear out and need replacing sooner than the Hawley, which might never need replacement at all.

I had the two too, and that i in my view like the classic Hawley retainer greater helpful effective. certainly because of the fact it quite is a lot greater straightforward to bathe! in comparison to the clean plastic, you're able to brush it with a toothbrush without stressful approximately it getting scratched and cloudy.
