Seriously. Christianity opposes everything progressive. Christianity is against homosexuals marrying, abortion, protecting the environment, stem cell research, feminism, and equal rights. I personally believe that all Christians should be crucified on a cross just like their mythical hero!

Actually Girl Wonder, you are not a true Liberal. A true Liberal says what he/she truly thinks and stands against tyranny! The tyranny I oppose is Christianity!

Are all of those things unequivocally progressive? I don't think abortion is progressive - it's abortive, the opposite of progressive. To choose life would be to allow life to progress. Do you think that Christians don't care about God's creation, the environment? I am a Christian, btw, and also a feminist, in the strict definition of feminism. I support stem cell research, as long as embryos aren't involved; there are other ways to research stem cells. Scientists don't need to and won't stop with the embryonic method. I support PROGRESS on stem cell research. Of course Christian people believe in equal rights! That is a very Christ-like ambition. If some Christians don't support equal rights for all people, then those Christians simply aren't acting in a very Christ-like way.
If you want people to be crucified, think about that for a minute. Would you personally be doing the crucifiction? I thought many liberals were opposed to the death penalty. I could be wrong, but that was my impression.

That's nutters
and lots of real Christians...almost all of the literate kind, believe in protecting the environment, feminism, and equal rights. The New Testement is clear on this. Whether those things are right or not, the bible never spoke against them and an unbiased interpretation would leave more to believe the bible is for them.

As for abortion and stem cell research it never really said anything for or against, that's just popular opinion. There are two to three abortion references, which being most often read as opposite opinions leaves that up to the reader.
Homosexuals marrying? Depends on your version that one is difficult.
Boxing them in as Christians or folks as Liberals is not taking into account all the variation on opinion, not to mention all the versions of Christian.
Crucifying anyone is cruel and psychotic by the way.

Unfortunately, the term "Liberal" has come to identify those Socialist/Marxist factions that are aetheistic in thought and in deed, rather than those who have open minds; or at least those who try to accept others who are different from themselves. The true meaning of "Liberal" identifies one who upholds liberty for all; and not just for special interest groups.

Granted, the actions of the three religions that have descended from Abraham... Christianity, Judaism and Islam... have all created Hell on Earth throughout history and into the present by waging wars in the hopes of conquering and subjugating others. Yet, each of those religions have beautiful and enlightening philosophies that are all too often ignored; especially when radical fundamentalist groups infiltrate their ranks. As far as the interactions of Christianity and "Liberals" are concerned, it's the actions of the "Pauline" Christians... (those who adhere to the self-deprecating, judgmental and self-righteous teachings of Paul of Tarsus, known as "Saint" Paul, the man who took love, peace and understanding out of the doctrines of early Christianity)... who have caused many people to abandon Christianity or to become aetheistic. There are many more Christians who are not against the situations that have been described in the question of this posting.

And if anyone thinks that the Socialist or Marxist parties uphold all of those situations as described, then perhaps they should think again. History has demonstrated it over and over: the National Socialist Party of Germany, the Communist Regime of Russia and China, and the "Socialist" regime of Fidel Castro in Cuba may have proposed liberty for all, but once they got into power, their actions have proven otherwise.

In closing, if a "Liberal" feels a call to "exterminate" someone else because of religion or philosophy, then that so-called "Liberal" individual is no better than the terrorist factions that are operating in the world today.

Christianity is the ultimate in equal rights. Everyone gets a chance to go to heaven, the poor get an easier shot than the rich. Would you have crucified the Rev. Martin Luther King?

Not all Liberals are Atheists. Yet.

Our duty, as liberals is to work to PROTECT everyone's rights to religious beliefs, or, to not believe. Your job is to work against the tyranny, not the religion.

If you really don't get it, then you are not doing neither your political allies nor your nation any good by spouting off such nonsense as you express here.

You have the right to say and write what you will. You do NOT have the right to hijack the term "liberal" to promote a fascist viewpoint.

I kind of suspect that you are a closet, right wing Christian fundamentalist mole, posting to Yahoo Answers to sabatoge the good works liberals have fought for over 200 years in this nation.

Of course, I COULD be wrong. You may be just plain wrongheadded.

A liberal can't force people to believe or think a certain way, that would make them the tyrant. We know better that to just replace on old tyrant with a new one.

What a liberal might strive for, in regards to Xtianity, is to uphold our constitutional guidelines of the separation of church and state. Rather than exterminate a religion, simply encourage awareness, knowledge, and tolerance. Let people know that their religion is to be celebrated in their homes, churches and communities--BUT not as rule of law, as stated in the constitution. Frankly, the more educated people are, the more likely they are to come to the rational conclusion on all the issues mentioned. Educate, don't eradicate.

Why are people reporting this question? It is completely legitimate (just a little cynical). Don't censor honest questions!

No, it is not your duty to exterminate Christianity.

You should read more.

There is a lot in Christianity that led to many good things you take for granted. The idea of individual rights, the idea of separation of religion and government, natural law theory, and a great many other things in Western civilization come from Christianity.

Christianity has a lot of problems, but that doesn't mean it is your duty to exterminate it. The people who believe in it have a right to believe in it. Your duty is to do the best you can with your life, to argue and work for the things you believe, and to believe things on the basis of solid evidence. Your duty isn't to exterminate other people's belief systems. If those beliefs systems fall on account of your good example and solid argumentation, so be it, but that's not the point. The point is to do right with your life, not force things on other people.

An be happy that you're not from a civilization whose majority religion declares it mandatory to execute apostates, or to force convert on pain of death atheists and pagans. They exist. Count your blessings.

not all of those things are progressive

not all Christians are against all of those things

not all liberals are for all of those things

you need to stop making such sweeping generalizations/condemnations. i'm a Christian and i believe in protecting our environment and in equal rights. i don't support homesexual marriage b/c marriage is a Christian institution and the Bible names homosexual relations as a sin. i also don't support abortion b/c abortion is murder.

but you don't seem to have a problem with killing ppl since you want all of us Christians killed. and you don't seem to be very supportive of equal rights yourself since you condemn millions of people for what they want to believe in.

Don't we have as much a right to hold our own opinions and beliefs? you ought to take a minute to think about where this country, and this world, would be without Christ and the people who follow Him.

JUST B/C YOU ARE A LIBERAL DOES NOT MAKE YOU AUTOMATICALLY RIGHT!

You call yourself a "LIBERAL," and yet you are so quick to crucify those who have different ideology than yours. I always found that to be a perplexing phenomenon w/liberals--which I am, and a Christian. Incidentally, Jesus was a radical and he broke bread w/the prostitiue and met w/tax collectors and he rebuked pious people by saying, "let he who hasn't sinned throw the first stone."
His gospel was about LOVE and FORGIVENESS and even hundreds and thousands of years later, his message is ALIVE!!! I think you speak from emotions and not critical thinking.

Those are traits of the conservitive, not the christian, at least not the christian that believes in the last book of the Old Testament. Turn your hate to those who don't seek ways to love with compassion, then you will be doing whats right on the mark.
