IT - Information Systems Technician is where you want to go in the Navy. Computers and good career. However, if you want to do the same and go up the ranks faster you might want to consider 25B: Information Systems Operator in the Army. Joining is a very important decision, so I recommend you research both and talk to people in those actual Rating/MOS first.

Also don't listen to Mrsjvb too much, she is the know it all type that is always talking not from experience. Posting here and other Military websites.

Have you taken the ASVAB to see what you even qualify for? Once you find out what's open to you, then there's the needs of the Navy. Currently, the HM field is in great need of males to go Fleet Marine Force( run with Marines in the field) The former DTs have all been mnerged into HM and is now just a secondary NEC.

as far computers..do you like to to troubleshoot, or operate?

Base pay is the same across the board, no matter which rating you choose. as for advancing..choose you rate, choose your fate. Some ratings are advancing very quickly today, but in three years from now will not be.

Your best bet is to talk with a recruiter. they have the latest information regarding which ratings are in the biggest need of new bodies.

Seriously, talk to your local recruiter. But I would suggest a dual path, computer support in the Nuclear Subs (boomers). My son is in Navy RTC right now, and is trying out for the SEALS. As an alternative he decided to go into air-refueling (the Grapes on the Carrier). If he does not make it in the SEALS, then he will look into boomer duty in a year or so, after he gets some additional education under his belt.

Assassin

Once you have taken part in a covert operation you are guaranteed a lifetime salary.

It is the best of two worlds. You get free-bees like a Blue lib Smurf and also get the Camaraderie of a loyal Red Stater.

Well, my brother in law worked in the subs. He went through the nuclear engineering program. Paid well. But he was an officer.

if by medical you mean, doctor, than medic doctors are in demand. My dentist complained about her work load, seem to think that dentist in the Navy had it very sweet.
