by starting the pills on the first day of your cycle or the sunday after you start this will aloow the pills to align with your cycle so you dont get pregnant and by the time the pills are actively in your system and working it is stopping ovulation .
usually when you do a sunday after your peroid start you have to use other protection for one week . by week 2 [with out BC] most women are getting ready to ovulate . if you start at any other time of the month with your pills other than the right time you could get pregnant .
best way to think of it is BC pills go through allot of research studies before marketed , so when it says to start on this day or that it is scientifically proven to be the best time to start them up .

Listen to your doctor about the birth control pills. Just be safe until then, no big deal. Also, you had better make sure if you are pregnant or not before you take the pill because it can be very harmful to the baby and cause birth defects. If you are thinking that you are pregnant than it would so be worth waiting to see if you even have a period before taking the pill!!

Birth conrtol is like tricking your body into thinking it's already pregnant. Whatever the doctor's instructions are you better obey, I would not be messing around with that organ. If your taking the shot, having to wait for the next period is for the doctor to make sure you arn't pregnant, serious risks can occur if you are. Other than that it's just a way to set up the cycle and make sure the hormones in the pill and the hormones produced in your body are aligned. Listen to your doctor, ask questions if you need to.

You must follow the directions that your doctor gives as well as the directions on the birth control packet. I have taken BCPs before and always followed the directions that the doctor says and what it says on the packet...take on the first Sunday after your period. Just listen and follow directions and you will be OK.
If you think you are pregnant do not take any birth control pills...that also tells you on the information packet and the doctor will also inform you of this as well...as it can harm the baby.

This is because each pack of birth control pills also contains placebo pills, which must be taken at a certain time during your cycle. The risk is of taking it now is that you could wind up pregnant.
Many people to get pregnant while on birth control - just ask a couple of my friends! If this happens, simply stop once you find out you're pregnant.

I don't understand the "sunday" thing either. I have always just started when i got them.
Taking birth control while pregnant is very dangerouse. Not only to your health, but that of the baby. If you are concerned take a test before hand. Taking birth control while preggie can inadvertantly cause a miscarraige or give you a baby with many health problems or deformations. Please be careful! The baby pays the price on that one!

You don't have to wait, you will just throw your cycle off. It helps to start on a Sunday so that the pills line up nicely with the days of the week. It's helpful if your forgetful about these things like I am.

It is purely for scheduling - bc pills come pre-labeled for the day of the week to make it easier for you to remember when to take them, and look at a glance to see if you remembered or need to take one that day. Since it takes time for the pills to become fully effective, and the short wait he is requests is far less inconvenient than getting confused about your schedule and missing a pill then becoming pregnant, I'd suggest you follow his advice and wait.
