One time I bought a Bulldog from a guy on ebay a really good steal for 500 bucks, but a week later I got in the mail a box with no holes in it, I was very concerned, I opened it and the dogs head was in it along with a video tape, I put the bloody tape in my vcr and the sick guy had video taped cutting the dogs head off while he was alive, he is in jail now though he used his real address and stuff on ebay so they were able to track him down.

Because there are too many theys that can go wrong in animal sales online. First it is very inpersonal to just sell a living thing to someone you have never met. Second, the animal may have "problems" that are unknow, this could case a big conflect that Ebay just does not want to have to deal with (can't blame them). I'm sure there are hundreds of more reasons that people should be able to think of.

Also life fish are sold on Ebay. I have personally looked at Koi fish on Ebay. But I would never buy an animal off of Ebay and hav it shipped to me, it just seems wrong.

I fine it difficult to believe some of the answers you have received......
Of course look at all the things that slip through the cracks with Yahoo Questions & Answers, so I am sure there are cases of live animals being sold before eBay could catch up with the sale, especially if there were no problems with the transaction.
That being said, this is the reason listed by eBay for the restriction on the sale of live animals:

eBay urges its sellers and buyers to comply with all governmental laws and regulations. Since the sale of live animals and wildlife products is in some cases prohibited, highly regulated, or may cause harm to eBay or its members, sellers are restricted in their listing of them on eBay.

eBay doesn't allow the sale of live creatures, so it is unlikely that there have been any successful pet sales on eBay.

Selling living things on ebay is against their policy.
