I keep my onions in the refrigerator. This seems to cut down on the fumes.

Chilling the onion definitely cuts down on some of the fumes, but you can also try draping a kitchen towel over your head (seriously.)
Also, yellow onions seem to be less pungent than white.

frist cut thetop off and leave on the bottom run it under cold water and bite down the whole time while you are cutting i use to be a prep cook it worked for me if you do feel that your eyes are starting to feel the juices and still have alot more to cut keep runing it under water every couple of cuts but if it bothers you that bad and you have to chop alot of onions you can get a gless chopper from a tag sale for a quarter put in onion and screw on the lid chop chop chop good luck

light a candle and sit it nearby or use a food chopper if you have one. I've also heard you can put the onion in the freezer for 10-15 min prior to cutting and that will work too.

Light a match, put it out and wave it sround in the area you are cutting the onion. I'm not sure how or why it works but I do it and it works all the time!

I dont think it's possible. I saw a special on a plant where they process onions, and the employess (ones who've worked there years) said they still tear up when they initially get into the plant, but its not as much, their bodies have built a little tolerance.

If you chill the onion in the fridge first it cuts down on the tears.

Onions don't make me cry. I just tell them, "No hard feelings, it's either me or you." And chop chop chop.

Do it quick, don't dilly-dally. Rinse your hands and knife and the onion immediately.
