I have two male cats that are a little over a year old. They are both indoor cats and are not fixed. They haven't 'sprayed' anything yet but I am told they will eventually. I am afraid if I get them fixed that it will change their personailties. Anyone have any insight on this?

it wont change there personailits just calm them down, and it helps keep them home, because if there is a female cat within a 10 mile radius they will go and find her...

If you don't get it done right away, they will start to spray. Once they begin spraying, some males continue for the rest of their lives even if they are fixed after they start to spray. I have always rescued strays and have had up to 23 adult cats in my house at a time. We always get them fixed, they seem to calm down a little in terms of wanting to run around the neighborhood looking for a party at 2 am, but are still very playful and affectionate. Fixing them does not remove any of the part of them responsible for personality, just the part that makes them want to mate with every female in a 10 mile radius. You may even find your neighbors are micer after your cats are fixed, you'll sure find out that you have cranky neighbors if your cats ever spray at their house.

We had our cats done at 6 weeks, but I've been told that once a cat starts spraying before they're neutered it sometimes causes problems. About all it will cause your cats to do is maybe gain a little weight.

I have 2 male cats as well, both fixed, and they didn't change their personalities once I had it done, think it depends on the cat. Also, not all male cats spray..for the record

i've had 2 cats fixed and for the first 2-5 hours they may be pretty grouchy. But no long-term Personality changes.

It doesn't really affect their personalities. But they will gain wait and might not be quite as energetic as they were before the neutering was done. Our cat is still pretty frisky, and he's been fixed for almost a year.

My aunt got her female cat fixed and right after that the cat took revenge out on all of them by peeing on everything ! It was horrible ! I will never get mine done.

it won't change their personalities at all. believe me, every pet that I've ever owned has been spayed/neutered and actually if their personalities do change, it's for the better. if you don't neuter them then they will soon want to go roam and look for a mate to have a litter. that's the last thing you want them to do I hope. they'll just contribute to the increased overpopulation of unwanted cats/kittens. trust me, it's for the better, and they also live longer healthier lives. less prone to certain types of diseases. PLEASE, PLEASE neuter them for unwanted cats/kits sake, and their health as well. I have two cats that are male and female and they are spayed/neutered. if they weren't then I would have a litter of unwanted kittens right now. NEUTER THEM!!!!!!!!

Believe me. They will spray sooner or later and you want to get them neutered before they get that habit. It won't change their personalities. They will just be a tad calmer and that's not a bad thing. Have a nice day. Prrrrr

their personalities won't change except to make them calmer... and trust me, you do not want spraying!!! It is so disgusting and it's horrible to clean. unless you have a fancy shmancy breed of cat, you should neuter them anyways because there are way too many kittens that don't have homes already.
