People state very matter-of-factly that God made us to look like him, arms and legs...or NOT to look like him, but to similarly have free will and to love, or whatever... All that sentence means is that God has an image, and created us with some respect to it. What the heck does image mean? Completely ambiguous!!!

Well as for myself I believe Jospeph Smith saw Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. He saw them as two distinct persons and spoke with them face to face. He also translated the Book of Mormon, ancient scripture buried in the earth that God prepared for our day. So, Joseph Smith bore witness to the appearance of God and revealed scripture regarding the relationship between God and man.

In His image means that we are similar to God in the sense that all humans have "a part" of God in them, that being the soul, which was breathed into man. Think of God and our soul being in the same image in the fact that (depending on your denomination) both are eternal. If you believe in the Christian Trinity, our body may have been made in the image of Jesus' body, but I don't really believe this is what God meant by saying "In His image". But don't believe everything I say, to find an answer that would help you, search the Scriptures.

If you want to learn more about the bible, study with Jehovah's Witnesses. By use of the bible they will show you in full detail how humans are in God's image. You will come to see that his four cardinal qualities are power, justice, wisdom, but most of all love. This is the extent to which we are made in God's image. That is why we express these things in one way or another in our every day life. These qualities set us apart from other creatures.

Read the verse correctly. Scripture doesn't say that God made us to look like him But rather in His image. We have 3 parts of us. First our body, then our spirit, then our soul. God is made up of the same thing. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Please make sure you quote scripture correctly. Read it for yourself. And if you have question ask the true author of the bible. God Himself and see what He says about it. Don't get fustrated Ask God.

That is just one example of many in the Bible where there is no clear meaning and people just give whatever meaning they feel necessary at that time and then claim it to be the word of God.

It is his personality traits and qualities that he bestowed upon us. For example, 1 John 4:8 says, "God is love." We have love. We also have a sense of justice, although imperfect, like God. We have power and wisdom like him, but obviously not to the extent. We can be compassionate, forgiving, merciful, and understanding. God doesn't have a physical form like us because he is a spirit.

You misunderstand. Genesis 1:26 "...And God said, Let us make man in our image,..."
The word "God" in the original Hebrew is "'elohiym {el-o-heem'}".
This plural. Which means God and the angel. We look like the way we looked in Heaven before we came here, in the flesh.
This is why Jesus said, John 14:9 "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?"
Think about it.

it's strange, but obviously people have an easier time relating to a God they can picture (like an old man with a white beard) than something abstract, which takes on no human characteristics . . but hey "human" characteristics are just that ; . . human, and not Godly . . .
