I used to be very full of pride, able to stare people down but all of the sudden now I don't really like looking people in them much. My eyes tend to wander now and it seems that it just came on recently. I tend to think it's possibly self-esteem but then again, I am happy. I know this comes from self-esteem and self confidence but if so, how do I change it?

I have the same problem you do. Unless I am very comfortable with the person I tend to look away. I just try to think of something else and that helps me look people in the eye. It is for sure a self confidence issue. You may not be confident in the statement you are trying to make or the person you are talking to will respect what you have to say. By admitting you have this issue you have taken the first step in changing it. Try doing some pratice sessions with someone you are close to.

I think you may be having confidence issues. you may be feeling inadequate. Its not about stairing people down. I think you worded that wrong. staring someone down is kinda competitive. When u have confidence theres no need to stair someone down. Unless your meaning it in a competitive way.Looking them in the eye when you speak shows your attentive and confident in what u have to say back. Not looking someone in the eye can make some one feel as though u arnt being truthful. are u truthful in what u say? why should u feel as though the person u are speaking has so much control or power unless u don't even believe what is coming out of ur own mouth. U are just as good as everyone else. unless you are just full of crap there is no reason you shouldn't be able to look someone in the eye. Say what u mean and mean what u say.

since you know whats causing it, you can only change it by changing your negative self image. Tell you're self that you are a good person, and look those people in the eye. When you don't make eye contact people tend to feel that you are distrustful or distrusting and it makes people back away, you dont want that to happen. So be proud of who you are and stop lookin at your feet, the world is much prettier when you look up.
