People shouldn't give advice when they don't know what they're talking about.

Vanco is NOT the only drug for MRSA. In fact, there's growing evidence that it's not even the BEST anymore.

Other alternatives : Daptomycin or Zyvox. Zyvox is equally as effective when it is given orally as it is by IV. It allows outpatient treatment of MRSA without and IV.
About work ...

What has your doctor said about returning to work? If you need special accomodations, talk to your company's human resource director.

I doubt that the doctors are truly turning their back on you. From the other side of the exam room, it's frustrating to have a patient that you treat properly and still doesn't get better.

If you haven't seen one yet, you should see an infectious disease specialist. I know that sometimes the Canadian health system is slow to navigate, but see if your doc can at least start the referral process.

Another thing, you didn't say where your MRSA was located. Some areas are harder to treat than others.

Good luck

It all depends on what kind of staph. infection you have. Some staph. infections are transmitted by respiratory secretions and some are transmitted by contact. You should ask your doctor that question since he should know what type of staph infection you have. Unfortuantely, there are no other medication other than vancomycin that can be used to treat MRSA.

It sounds like your MRSA is in your wound. Its not airborn, therefore, you should be ok to be around other employees. If it were in your respiratory trac, then, it would be airborn MRSA. There are different types.
