The book of Ecclesiastes was mostly written by King Solomon. And even though Solomon had visits and visions from God, and was blessed with great wisdom, and more, Solomon was not converted; he could not see the spiritual side of life. So, when he saw that people died, he saw no evidence that there was any difference between when animals and people die; there is no physical evidence that the spirit of people ascends to God who keeps it.

Yet, spiritual people like Job knew that that was not the end of life. God has a desire for the work of his hands. And like his hands, his work is spiritual. It is not this mortal, corruptable flesh that will live forever with God, but our spirit made alive by his spirit.

But Solomon was right in this respect -- that without God's spirit in us to give us life, we DO die like animals.

Okay, first one needs to undersand the context in which the book of Ecclesiastes was written. It was written by Solomon, son of David, King of Isreal, wisest man to have ever lived. He is searching for the meaning of life. What he is saying here is that men and animals are essentually the same, that they both breath air and the both die. I hope this answers your question to some degree.

It means that we die the same as everything else on earth. We are no better than animals when it comes to life & death....the same fate (which is death) awaits us all.

I think it just says that everyone dies, but in a very fancy, comanding, biblely way. Of course I still refuse to except it as fate. Death is just another obstacle for science to overcome.
