I think this is not just the question of "How do you fell being a Romanian?/American?/etc.". The base idea is your felling of patriotism and the heart ache that you fell when you're all alone among strangers, this felling that not only Romanians fell, but any other person. How do you think the soldiers in Iraq fell, how do you think I fell being all alone in Japan, and I haven't a clue of speaking Japanese. Yes, I'm a Romanian and I'm proud of this! Another thing I have to clear out:::ROMANIANS ARE NOT GYPSIES! We are a pure breed that rose from the descendants of the Romans and a culture alike the vikings, from the Danube's_Carpathian_Black Sea Area. Gypsies came in the 1800's from India, and became a minority in Romania. Many of them were forced to go to Romania since the states that "housed" them did not want them anymore: Italy,Germany, France, Austria, Hungary. Romania was played as a fool, and forced to adopt these people, Romanians are not gypsies but gypsies are Romanians, since they have been given by force this nationality. They don't consider themselves Romanians and like to keep their own cultural identity. I'm not a gypsy but I know some of them, and know how they think, and most important of all what they think.
Proud of being a ROMANIAN! We and the Indians overtake any other programmer providing countries in the world!

since i indeed have all the ideas i can possibly have on the subject, i`m left 2 wonder about the tone of your question.
and i hope it`s not a desperate cry 4 help. it shouldn`t be. i`m also very much proud of being Romanian, and i hope a huge paycheck will never drag me away from my country. that IS the major complaint of everybody living here.
if u`re smart, stay, or go back! there`s a chance 4 this place, and only people like u and me can make a difference. (don`t shoot me 4 being an idealist, but we have too much potential 2 screw things up - again)
good luck!

Chances are that you are Romanian Orthodox. If you live out the city, you may drive a horse and wagon. In the city you may fill your car on natural gas. You are glad to be out from under the rule of a dictator.
