I am so sorry to hear about your dog! Having to say goodbye to a friend is difficult, but it helps to know what exactly happens when you leave the vet clinic.
When you say "put to sleep" it means that your pet will be given a shot that will first make him painlessly fall asleep, and then will cause his heart to stop. Your pet will be laying on a cozy blanket while the assistants pet her and calm her. You can be present as your dog goes to sleep, or you can choose to say goodbye before they give the shot and leave.
Your pet is then taken to a crematorium, a special building that has a big oven-like object that pets are placed into, and when they come out, all that is left is thier bones. The bones are made into a powder, which is carefully placed into a sealed baggie, and then into a decorative container or bag to be given back to the pet's owner. You may choose to keep the "ashes" in a special place in the house, or bury them, or sprinkle them in a special place. I keep my cremated pets in urns, which are ceramic, decorative containers made for that purpose.
Cremating pets can be a lot easier on the owner, because they don't have to go through the work of burying, and worrying that an animal will dig the remains back up.
I hope this answers your questions...and consider yourself hugged!

An urn is a container, kind of like a vase with a lid, that you can put the ashes in. Some people keep the urn of ashes, some people will bury the urn with the ashes in it so they can have a grave, and others will scatter the ashes over a meaningful place, like where your dog liked to play outside, or the ocean or a lake, etc.

Cremation is often a cheaper alternative to burying a loved one or pet. Instead of having to buy a plot of land and a tombstone, many people lean towards cremation because it is much more affordable. When people or animals are cremated, their bodies are burned to ashes and the ashes are placed in an urn (a special container for ashes). You and your family can then place the urn wherever you would like. Sometimes you have the option of buying an urn that is decorated or made of expensive materials.
Im very sorry to hear about your dog. =( I wish you the best.

We had all 3 of our pets creamated, we have thier ashes in urns on out fireplace shelf in the living room, with their pictures by them. We loved them all very much. When they died they were 23 yrs, 18 yrs and 18yrs old.
An urn is a container they put the ashes in, when we got ours back- they were in a cheesy urn, we bought a nice box for them.

Cremation has nothing to do with ashes. The dog will be put in the crematorium and burned for about 45 minutes. The bones left over from this process will be pulverized, so your family will get back fine cremains of the dogs bone fragments.(fine dust so-to-say)

It means that your dogs remains will be burned in an incinerator until nothing is left but bone fragments and some ashes. Then they put everything into a container so that if you wanna keep it for memories you can.

Instead of putting a body in the ground, some people burn them and keep the ashes from the body in a glass with a lid.

sorry to hear about your dog. Being creamated is when they burn the remains of the dog after the spirit leaves the body.
