In Sweden there is a "delicacy" call Surstomming that is absolutely foul smelling:

"Surströmming (sour herring) is a Swedish delicacy consisting of fermented Baltic herring. Surströmming is sold in cans, which when opened release a strong, foul smell. It is for this particular smell, which is similar to fish gone bad or garbage left out in the sun for a couple of days, that surströmming is infamous in popular culture, and it is often held that people who try surströmming can be confident that they will never forget it. Because of the smell, the dish is often eaten outdoors. However, opening the can under water somewhat lessens the smell, as well as keeping the person opening it from getting soaked in brine, as the fermentation often builds up a considerable pressure inside the can."

There's a book called Zodiac, can't remember the author but the hero uses a chemical called putrescine which smells worse than skunk. It smells like dead things.

Personally the smell of amonia makes me heave as well as cats litter trays. I have never been face to face with a skunk so I can't give you a comparison.

I think a worse smell is when a mouse or rat dies within your walls. The smell lingers for at least a couple of weeks.

Breathe thru your mouth and give your dog a bath (preferebly outside) with tomato juice. You will most likely need a couple of the largest cans you can find.
