I believe the official name is The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Do you know any? Are they related to the fundamentalists in Colorado City?

I am LDS, or mormon, and the official name of the church, you have right.

Now you can say you know one, or of one anyways!! We really aren't that weird, we don't have more then one wife, we believe in the bible and in Christ. We don't believe in the trinity, and that makes some other christians think we aren't christian. We believe that God, Christ and the holy spirit are 3 seperate beings, acting as one in purpose. God and Christ both have a body of flesh and bone, resurrected and perfected.

We are in no way related to the FLDS out in Colorado!! They are a bunch of nuts! We don't practice polygamy anymore, haven't for over a hundred years, yet that is what most people focus on. They forget that there are multiple accounts in the bible about polygamy. Take David and Solomon as just a few. There have been times when God has commanded polygamy, and in our early years, was one. A law was passed that outlawed polygamy, and in so doing, we had to follow the law. Polygamy was started to help widows to keep land. Most marriages were only for the name, not for the marriage bed. Yes, some were for that, and many children were the result. You have to remember that at the time of polygamy, there was a war going on, a lot of men left to help fight, which left their wives alone, and women couldn't own land, so they would have been homeless if it wasn't for the good men of the church that offered to be married to them.

I don't believe that polygamy is a good thing now, and I don't think that the inter-marriages that are going on in Colorado City is good. There is nowhere in any scripture that states that an old man should have the right to marry a teenager without her consent. That is wrong and illegal. That is why the FBI is after them. Don't know if you have heard much about it, but there is a big thing about it and some of the men have been arrested and charged with sexual crimes against children, and other such crimes. This is why our church did away with it when we did.

No they are not the same group at all. They have different leaders in their church, and the cults in Colorado City practice polygomy. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has over 12 million members world wide. They beilive in the Bible, and The Book Of Mormon (which is just accounts of Jesus's teachings in the US to the Native Americans that are believed to be here). LDS people do not practice anyhting weird. They look normal, go to work like everyone else. You probably know a whole bunch, and just dont know.

I think about them same as I think about everyone else. Merely people following their own path.

And no from what I gather the "mainstream" Latter-Day Saint church (main headquarters in Salt Lake City) refuse to claim the fundies in Colorado City.

I was raised in Utah and most of the Mormons I know are wonderful people. And no the LDS church is not related to Colorado City. The people in Colorado City are a bunch of radicals that have started their own religion. if you will check it out you will see that their so called leader(Jeffs) is on the FBI's most wanted list. Please don't associate these radicals with Mormons. Thank you.

Mormons are fundamentalists in a queer sort of way. By that I mean they take the Book of Mormon to be just as important as the Bible. The Book of Mormon is horseshit. The founder of the religion, Joseph Smith, claimed to find a pair of golden tables written in a strange form of writing, which he was able to translate with the aid of mysteriously found "Shew stones". No one besides him ever saw the golden tablets or his special spectacles. Reliable historians consider him a cult leader at best and maybe even a con artist.

I read Krakaur's book about Colorado City and he stated that the fundamentalist mormons are totally split and separate from the mainstream church.

Knowing many mormons myself, I am inclined to believe this. I do not think they are wife-collecting murderers.
