Try a high speed memory card. The camera lags because its writing to your memory, so the faster the card can write the faster you'll be able to take your next photo.

Some of the newer pocket cameras in the $200 to $300 price range have good performance. Under that though, and you will get crappy performance. Fugi cameras pretty much across the board are inferior. Probably, the best choice would be for you to spend more in the $400 price range and get a Sony DSC-H5 ultrazoom camera. This camera is about the same size as a Fugi FinePix camera but is a far, far, FAR better camera. Cannon makes decent cameras in this class but Sony is better (or rather more advanced....they update their technology faster than Canon does). $400 is the price range for a "real" camera, as opposed to a pocket camera. The picture quality is alot better, as are the tools for making sure your pictures are good.

If you are determined to keep it under $300, then the camera you want is the Sony DSC-W70. For a few dollars more, you could have the DSC-W100. These are very nice cameras for being pocket cameras and are probably what you want.

Stick to Cannon, Nikkon or Fuji, everything else is garbage. I have a Cannon SD700 and it is lightning fast, but it is out of that price range. I'd just go to Best Buy and play with all the display models in your price range, but never ever get their advice, they have no clue about these things.
