I am seriously considering lazer eye surgery here in the UK. I have just had my 2 hour consultation. Has anyone else had this done and if so, what are your thoughts?

Best thing I have ever done. In less than 10 min you stop wearing glasses. It's very good my vision is 20/20. Couldn't think of a better thing to do with myy money. Keep in mind that it's like getting a pair a new eyes they have to adjust and once they do it's great.

Lazer eye surgery has proven to be a facinating repair. My ex girlfriend had it 5 yaers ago and has not had a single problem. Her's was a little more complicated because of the deformation of her cornea. The dr. had to do 2 lazer surgery per eye. It felt uncomfortable for about a week, but the weeklong of sand in eye feeling was minimum compared to the outcome. I say have it but make sure it is done by a well qualified dr.
Good luck

I had it done over two years ago and I LOVE it!! It all depends on who you go to. Talk to people that you know that had it done so they can refer you to a great doctor. Maybe have 1 or 2 more consults with different doctors before you do it just to feel more comfortable. But its the best thing that I have ever done for myself!

I used to work for an eye doctor and we had lots of people go and have the surgery but over half of them have come back a few years later needing glasses for reading. They can only correct one or the other...reading or distance.

Was the guy doing the consultation wearing glasses?

There is no long term research into side effects

people have reported poor night vision arcing effects.
Many ophthalmic surgeons would not have this done to themselves
think very very carefully about it

Check into it by searching online for laser eye complications.

You only have one set of eyes. Be thoroughly informed. If you do decide to do it, be prepared you may still need reading glasses when you get to your 40's. The longer term effects are as of yet, unknown. You could get complications (damage to the cornea, infections or worse), so just read and be informed. Go with a list of questions - get the best doctor if you do it, not the cheapest. As for me, I'd never do it for so many reasons (I did my research).

Dont have it done, i know personally people that have gone through nightmares, the op isn't long lasting, and a workmates wife has suffered a dramatic fall in her sight quality.

One thing to note, how many opthalmic surgeons have it done ? , hardly any , they all wear specs.

I wouldn't risk it just yet.

Contact lenses are getting cheaper and cheaper. Maybe in say ten or twenty years when we find out whether it messes up your eyes. But I am a very cautious person.

It all depends on what procedure you will have done.LASIK is probably the least painful with immediate results. I had LASIK in December 2004 with great results.
