If you want to live in NZ permanently you will need to apply for a residence visa.

To do so you will need a job offer for skilled employment or be skilled in an occupation is immediate shortage. You will need to have a full medical examination by an approved doctor.

If you want to live in NZ fresh start magazine is very good, you can get a six month visa and apply for a work permit once in the country or can get a job before you go

As a UK resident you automatically receive a 6 months travel permit.You can apply for a work permit once you arrive, but it could take over a month. If you wish to get a work permit before you arrive you'll need to apply through www.immigration.govt.nz
You'll need to have a full medical done, and a chest xray, and you'll also require a police certificate to show you're not a criminal!

it's fairly straight forward for UK citizens.
English language skill and employment skills in a points based system.
similar to Australia.
your greatest hurdle will be finding a job.

Really you need a skill to migrate and it will need to be something that is lacking in that country e.g. nursing, building, accounting OR find a company to sponsor you (again skills!) or marry a New Zealander!
