Weight loss is from calories in < calories out, calories come from food. Exercise helps raise the amount of burned calories, but diet is by far the most important factor in achieving weight loss. There are plenty of lazy people who aren't overweight.

I think it is stupid not to exercise and it is generally stupid not to exercise with any diet. Four days per week however is enough.
Having said that, you must consider that extremely overweight people can only have a very limited exercise program to start with. On my part, I found that exercise generally increased my appetite to the point of stalling any loss. I have lost 60 pounds with very little exercise.
Better proper weight and no exercise, than big slabs of fat and no exercise. Generally more activity comes with weight loss.
I think the diets and eating suggestions by so-called experts are as stupid or more stupid than the overweight public. It is expert misinformation or proprietary ignorance that has made the nation overweight.

They want the easy (tho dieting is not always easy) way out. No one should ever really have to be on a "diet" but rather have a healthy diet. Exercise is important for healthy living regardless of your weight.

Yes, it's stupid and it doesn't work in the long term. What happens when people reach their target weight, is they don't keep their good habits and end up returning to their original weight. Also because they don't exercise, they end up losing muscle as well as body fat and still look flabby because they don't have good muscle tone. I say exercise regularly and eat healthily for life.

Well, in truth its quite easy to lose fat through diet alone if you really have fat to lose.
Of course exercise is very important for general health and fitness, but when you eat a healthy natural diet (and not a fad 2 week thing) your body tends to naturally shed excess fat.
Everybody has to make their own decisions, and the most important thing is that whatever a person choses, that they do it in a healthy, sustainable manner.

Why, I did. Maybe a little yoga towards the end...
After trying for 10 years. I finally lost 150+ lbs (12 stone) and kept it off for over 4 years now. I've beaten 3 terminal diseases and I am now in amazing health, all around, not just thinner.
I did it without medicine, workouts, religion, going hungry or hating my food and without an operation or secret formula. I had tried counting: calories; carbs; fat; etc. I had tried jogging, swimming, weights, aerobics, crazy medicines and starving! But nothing ever worked well or lasted very long.
I also had Hypertension, High Blood Pressure, Chronic Asthma, vision and hearing loss. constant colds and ills, annual flu or pneumonia and more. I was approved for bypass surgery and taking usually between 16 and 20 pills a day.
take a look at my before and after pictures...
