Most of us are religious. I'm not. It doesn't mean I don't believe in God, its just that I don't choose to follow a certain religion. I know some of us believe in -religion- because we were brought up on it and we say, "Why does this other person want to be this other relgion?" Ever think maybe because they were raised on it as you were raised with yours? (If you wern't raised on it, pay not mind to this.) Then.. how do we know if any of our religions are right? It doesn't mean i'm going to hell if I don't believe in a religion. So my question is, what is your opinion on this?

if you don't have a religion, why do you believe in hell?
yes we do need a code book. we even need stoplights to guide us through simple traffic, right?
so why not a religion with a big book (bible/koran, etc) to guide us through life. and maybe actually find out what is our purpose here on earth. certainly not to party or we'll all be dead by 30

The Bible says that even the demons believe in God. So, believing is not enough. Also, a firey burning Hell is a lie according to the Bible (see Jeremiah 7:30, 31). Proverbs 18:1 tells us why it is not a good idea to try to serve God on our own. Jeremiah 10:23 shows that we were not even created to make decisions for ourselves. The Bible is our letter from God and he tells us everything we need to make decisions. At Hebrews 10:24 and 25 we are commanded to gather ourselves together. The dilemma, then, is not whether to have a religion, but how to find the right one.

We have religion because, at the most very basic level, we know that something cannot come from nothing. The big Bang cannot start itself, something else must have. Why do we believe that one religion is better? Because God, if He exists, must be the genesis of all virtue and right. If that is so, then no more than one religion can be true. If God is perfect, and we (obviously) aren't, then He must have some way to redeem us, because as the perfect love, mercy, justice, etc., he is not only infinitely more perfect than us, making it impossible for us to attain Him, but he can't leave us to die, because He created us FOR his love. But being also perfectly just, he can't just say "Okay, you're redeemed". Someone has to pay the price. So, being all powerfull and sinless, He pays the price himself, His infinite perfection making up for all our finite sins. Christianity is the only religion to follow the logical way, and the first religion to recognize all peoples as equally deserving of grace, and to deny conversion by the sword.

Bible thumpers will definitely be knocking!

I've been stating the same thing for the longest time and it iratates the hell out of me when people blindly follow a religion without considering the numerous other possiblities, Why do we have brains if 80% of the mankind refuses to use them. I ask my friends " if you were born in china What would be your religion??" the majority of them stated chrisitainity without question and actually appeared to have given no thought on this subject. Ignorance seems to be the most prevalent mentality in the world and I find it hard to believe that we are as "advanced" as we think we are. there are poeple out there who are true brainiacs and have never question themselves or the society the live in. It seems to me that there are people who ignore aspects of the world that you truly become ignorant thus hampering the progression within one self. Its a sad Cycle and I hope that one day the world will emerge from under the precipice of influence and people will finally begin to think for themselves and decides what right and wrong not because of what they've been told but because of what they've discovered to be true based off of experience. but i guess I too am just a dreamer

I could write pages on why my religion is right, until you seek and find God for yourself it will be meaningless for you. I wasn't raised on anything but abandonment and loneliness. When I met God, and found a relationship with the creator of the angels, I knew I had found the lover of my soul. For a good understanding of the reasons Christians believe what they do, The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel is great.

The Bible is not a code book nor is it a self-help book. the Bible is the revealed word of God to mankind. You cannot help yourself nor can you save yourself. You need a savior who has atoned for your sin nature, and his name is Jesus. He has done all the work for you. All you have to do is believe. You do not need a religion to be saved---all you need is Jesus. Religion never saved anyone---only the blood of Jesus saves. You need to be saved because of Adam's sin in the Garden of Eden. this sin has been imputed to you through generation after generation of your ancestry all the way back to Adam. God hates sin and he will not allow anybody into heaven with the taint of sin. There can be no remission of sin without the shedding of innocent blood, and Jesus is the only one who has fulfilled this requirement. when Jesus died on the cross it was God who died on the cross. You cannot get any more innocent than God because there is no sin in God. The blood of Jesus covers your sin and presents you clean before God. This is the gospel, that Jesus died for you so that you would not have to do so. He was buried in a tomb and was raised from the dead on the third day, was seen by more than 500 people, ascended to heaven in body and spirit and sits on the right hand of the Father as our priestly intercessor. Jesus loves you.

Even the Bible is against religion. What is important is your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you admitted you are a sinner? Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior? Do you believe He is the Son of God? That is most important. Religion is nothing but tradition. Traditions are good...but they are bad when they take away our focus from our relationship with Christ. Think about it.

Personally I found my religion by reading and studying the Bible.

My opinion is that I have the same thoughts you do!

I find it more rewarding to explore religion on my own terms, seek my own thoughts and beliefs on god rather than be told how to believe or what to believe. I think we should be able to interpret religion in our own way.

There are so many religions, each of them claiming they are the "only true religion"...I find it preposterous...I think there are probably aspects of every religion that could be true or could be total hogwash and I don't need anyone telling me how to believe.
