I was told that if your puppy/dog seems to itch in one spot, that it could be allergic to it's food. Could this possibly be true?

Yes! I have three cats, one dog. We feed our cats Whiskas. We used to feed them their meaty-selections. My tiger, Faith, had an allergic reaction to it. Constantly threw up. We then switched to the sea-food-selections. She is now a happy healthy cat.

I am convinced my dog, Bailley, is allergic to pollen. Usually during the beginning of spring and fall, she will start sneezing like she has allergies.

Now, about the itching, make sure it is not fleas. If it is, I would recommend Zodiac pets flea drops. I use them on Bailley. Protects against mosquitoes, ticks, no-see-ums, and fleas. Works great!

Some animals are allergic to fleas. For instance, Faith is allergic to fleas. She will constantly scratch herself until she bleeds. Requires steriods everytime she breaks out really bad.

If it is not fleas, flea allergy, or food allergy, it might be some skin condition. If that is the case, I would take your canine to the vet for medical treatment.

It could be a possible food allergy reaction, or some other skin problem going on. Skin mites, flees, lice or even there anal sacs could be bothering them. I work for a vet and the best thing to do is have your dog checked over by your vet. I rather be safe then sorry. An annoying itch is just as annoying to a dog as it is to us and just like us, if we scratch to much we make matters worse.

Dogs can develop allergies just like people. They can even be allergic to grass. The most common allergy though is flea bites. If your puppy has a large itchy spot, look for fleas first. One of my dogs developed an allergy to flea bites and had a really itchy rash on her tummy - she had big round spots. The fleas were on her back so I didn't see them and didn't realize she had fleas until after a trip to the vet. She was sooo miserable, but fortunately it was easy to treat.

Yes...
I have two dogs and one of them was allergic to his food.
He would eat it and then itch non-stop...it was horrible.
The vet prescriped us with some food that's completely vegetarian.
It really helped...the only bad part is that it's pretty expensive...but WAY worth it!!!

it could be possible.. especially if it is a pure breed..
Most pure breeds, dogs and cats, have a lot of allergies and medical conditions..
Best to bring your puppy in for a check up and tell your vet what you are feeding the puppy and what are the symptoms!!
