I tried going through Program Files but it says it's a program file and can't be deleted and so on.

This is a tough one. Microsoft stuck us with this one. You can get at it by: Add/Remove Programs.. on the left there is a place that says "Windows Prigrams". Clk on that and scroll trru, you'll see Windows Media Player etc. You can UNcheck Windows Messenger there but it will come back!
I've tried everything I know. Another thing that would disable it is to rename the .exe file so it couldn't start. You CAN'T rename it either!! Says it is in use.

Go to add/remove programs, on the right hand side there is a spot called add/remove windows components, windows messenger is under there.

windows messenger is inside the add/remove programs box, but you have to to change the tab to add/remove windows components, you will w.messenger at the bottom of the screen

If your are using windows XP then, have a option in add/remove programs called "add/remove windows components" try from that.

keep it its cool if msn messenger dont want to login you can set up your msn id on windows messenger

make sure you are signed in with admin rights..

start....settings...control panel...

admin tools

services

find messenger service..

right click and stop the service..
right click again and go to properties...disable it
