100% yes. I joined weight watchers in the hopes of losing some extra pounds I had put on over the years and after having a baby. I'm not one for dieting yet even with exercise my weight wouldn't budge. My sister-in-law had joined and was looking for some one to do it with so I figured, why not. I also figured that if I did it with her I'd be motivated to not only try the program, but stick with it both in terms of the meal plans and going to meetings. I saw results within a week. I was surprised at how easy it was. I did the points program and by watching the foods I ate, eating breakfast everyday, drinking plenty of water, and most importantly - eating the right portions of food the weight came off. Each week over a period of 6 weeks I lost between 1.5 and 2 pounds. Even after my 6 week session was over I continued to eat by the book and still lost weight. Gradually over time I weaned myself off the plan and through the modifications I learned from the plan I've kept the weight off and am very happy. And though I'm not rigorously following the plan, its never far from my mind when I'm making food and portion choices. I went from 135 pounds down to 118 pounds (I'm 5'2) and dropped from a size 8-10 to a size 4-6. I feel great, look great and know without a doubt I wouldn't have lost the weight without the program. My husband also did the program and lost 20 pounds.

weight watchers does a half-decsent job - there is a lot of room for improvement, but it should work.

Working with a Nutritionist would be better.

HERE ARE THE BASICS:

1. you lose weight by consuming fewer Calories than you burn
2. you gain weight by consuming more Calories than you burn.
3. you should be concerned with losing FAT, not weight.
4. You should be more concerned with your percent body fat, not your weight.
5. the best, most effective way or burning fat is by combining weight-training and cardio exercise. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be. You will burn more calories all day long, including while you sleep. A health body fat percentage for males is 7-18%, females 18-24% (approximate numbers).
6. you should eat 6-8 small meals each day - this will prevent you from eating 3 large meal which will slow your metabolism while your body works to digest the large quantity of food.

As a general rule of thumb, you should be weight-training 3-4 times per week and performing cardio 3-5 times per week.

Consider hiring a personal trainer (ISSA certified) and a nutritionist. The money spent on these services is worth more than spending money on pills and potions.

Yes, completely. Whenever I gain a couple pounds, and I want to go back down, I always go back to WW methods! If you're considering going to a WW meeting, and joining, you truly are making a GOOD decision!
