I can dream, can't I?

"The windows dirty the mattress stinks
This ain't no place to be a man
Ain't got no future, ain't got no past
And I don't think I ever can

The floor is filthy the walls are thin
The wind is howling in my face
The rats are peeling, I'm losing ground
Can't seem to join the human race.

Chorus:
Yeah, I'm living in a hell hole
Don't want to stay in this hell hole
Don't want to die in this hell hole
Girl, get me out of this hell hole.

I rode the jetstream, I hit the top
I'm eating steak and lobster tails
The sauna's drafty, the pools too hot
The kitchen stinks of boiling snails.

The taxman's coming, the butler quit
This ain't no way to be a man
I'm going back to where I started
I'm flashing back into my pan.

Chorus:
It's better in a hell hole
You know where you stand in a hell hole
Folks lend a hand in a hell hole
Girl get me back to my hell hole."

Removing religion from the world would not make the world more peaceful.

It would make it less peaceful.

If "no religion" = "peace and nonviolence," then how do you explain the 100 million people slaughtered by Communist regimes over the past 80 or so years?

Communism is officially atheist, remember.

You don't want to climb into ideological bed with the most murderous form of government in world history -- do you?

I don't know that a religion-free world is possible. I'm not sure that religion is the cause of people killing one another. I'm thinking ignorance is the cause of that, not religion.

I think that religion in some form or another will always be around because as humans we need to have some sort of security. Whatever form that security is, religion in it's many shapes and forms offers that. Many religions offer rituals and customs that provide comfort to those that subscribe to that particular religion, otherwise, why be a believer in it?

It's a valiant dream, but tragically, one that I'm afraid is not realistic, but I give you props for still believing in it!

Dear boy, you need to read some 20th century history, so you can begin to understand that atheists are quite as capable as theists (to say the least) of genocide, oppression, and ethnic strife.

Further, every advance in civilization, every movement of human emancipation, since late antiquity has been directly or indirectly inspired by the Christian ethos. A world without religion would be as bad, or, more likely, significantly worse, than the world we've got.

Religion is a man made thing.Such as denominations. Denominations ,I believe have caused a separation between the body of Christ due to the vain agreements of men. There is one truth, all else is a lie.
Christianity is about having a true relationship with the Father in Heaven and with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is not about tradition, it is about faith, love , hope. It is about willingly following our Father and his wisdom, not because we have to, but because we want to.
Yes there are some that turn Faith into a reason for almost anything, but that is not true for all. God does not change.Man thru his vanity has changed many of the true meanings of God's will and desires. But God is the same today as he was 2000 years ago.Not everyone that goes to church and says they are Christian , truly is one. Its like going to McDonald's doesn't make you a big mac.

Um, Stalin was an atheist.

As were the Communist Chinese, and have you seen what they did upon invading Tibet some 50 years back??

So no, having a religion-free world would not make much difference. The human race is such that we'd find new and interesting ways and reasons to kick each other's asses.

Well actually it is more Jews and Muslims right now, but whatever. Yes, there would still be war because there would still be people like Kim Jong Ill who will oppress and torture people in the quest for power and fortune. I can't believe that a Poli-sci/Religous Studies guy wouldn't know that.

It's a fact that the most religion-free places on Earth are also generally the most peaceful, free, egalitarian and civilised places on Earth... so yes, I think that would be a big step towards a better world.

It would be a better world, but think about it. It's in our nature to believe in a higher being than us or to blame things on other beings that are not us. So you can't really think the world would ever be religion-free since so many people want to believe in high beings or philosophies.
