Find a good ear nose & throat specialist. Get 3 to 4 opinions from different doctors. Most doctors barely know which side of the pencil to put in the sharpener let alone being able to identify an illness as a result of the visable symptoms.

If you are so concerned about what the white substance is you had better get serious.
How many times have you gone to your child's doctor with the problem? more than twice? then it is time to change doctors, and report the other one for stupidity. How do you know it's not an infection? as your child's doctor seems inept. Take your daughter to the A&E next time the substance appears, at least you will get a specialist to see what is wrong and get treatment for it.

Sounds like tonsillar cryptitis to me. See a good ENT. I used to have this all the time. It used to come and go much more frequently when I was younger (late teens) . I was supposed to have my tonsils removed because of it, but I got pregnant with my first child and then never went back for the surgery. Not much will help it as far as medicines, mouthwashes, etc. I have found that if I get enough sleep and eat right (just generally keep my immune system healthy) that helps some. Good luck!

This was something I found on the internet ....
Streptococcus aureus infection.
Apparently this is more common then I initially thought but it is the bacteria Strep aureus causing the infection of "white clumps that smell strongly".
As regarding the origin of the infections, defiantly not from the lung, as if it was you would be having other minor/major symptoms (i.e. fevers, shortness of breath, clubbing etc).
The origin in most of these infections as usual are multifactor; for example it could be related to an imbalance within your gut resulting in the over growth of a certain bacteria; or you could have a lack of balance within your pH of the mouth which results in the over growth of Strep aureus.
You have bacteria that are in your mouth naturally occurring to help prevent infections, and also help in production of a small amount of enzymes that helps in the digestion of foods. So it is originating from an imbalance. Where well that depends on your symptoms and past health history.
Your over all immune system is functioning but not at a level that helps fight of the infection completely.
Tonsillectomy is the last thing you want to get done, as it is a major part of you immune system.
Hope this helps.

If it's firmish and is in small lumps then it's called inspissated pus and is pus which has hardened and lodged in the tonsillar crypts but which is re-released after the tonsils move a bit or shrink.
The infection can be quite low-grade and chronic with not much pain but the funny thing is that at times when not acutely infected more of these cheesy-type blobs are seen 'cos that's when the crypts are their shallowest.

If a Dr. can't figure it out, check with the Dentist. There is info at Therabreath about tonsil "stones." But you can always get second opinions or see an ENT specialist.

My sister and both get these off and on and our doctors explained that it is food particles getting stuck. My sister always scratches hers off. They smell horrible, like rotting food. Occasionally when we cough or sneeze, one will be dislodged. Now I'm concerned they are more serious than just "food". I'd seek a second opinion if I were you. I may just do the same for myself. ;o)

Sounds like thrush which is caused by overgrowth of Candida, a natural yeast in our bodies. Does she eat a lot of sugar, wheat, bread, pasta? Is her throat sore? What does her breath smell like?
