Could it be because of their attitude toward religion and morality?

Ben, "The Decline of the Secular University" by John Sommerville of the Oxford University Press seems to disagree with you.

It starts much lower than the universities. What comes out of college these days is more a product of the public school system. By the time kids get to college, it's almost too late.

Are trying to say that Stanford, Yale, UC Berkely and Harvard are "stagnating"? This is an amazing question. Are you from another planet? Have you emerged from a 200 year coma? If you want to see stagnation, sit in on any Theology class at a religious university. After nearly 2000 years they are still promoting concepts such as talking snakes, making a person out of mud (when there was enough mud to make a few more, and eliminate the need for incest), "Cain" and "Abel's" wives when there were no women in existance except "Eve", Noah's "Ark". and other similar nonsense. Now tell me about "stagnation."

You probably answered you own question!

Religion is failing their flocks!

When the big CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) scandal of Jim Bakker happened there was a major backlash against televangalists and related places.

At one point TBN University (The Jerry Fallwell college and TV network) had to change it's name to Regent University due to a major drop in financing, probably because TBN was too close to CBN in sound!

The Jerry Fallwell, college, Regent, by the way, is a very top notch school! You will get a very good eduacation at that school! I worked with them (and every University in the country) for 20 years and I knew one professor there fairly well.

Once again, however, with the CAtholic scandals, and the Gay rights issues, and the Women Ministers and Bishops issues and the big mouths of Church Leaders and Elders who come out on all sides of these issues and sometimes sound bigoted rather than Christian, is it a wonder that people are skeptical about supporting "false prophets."

Also, don't forget Gas just jumped for $2.40 to $3.15 and people are cutting back on everything.

When my mother's income got cut, she had to take me out of religious school because she couldn't afford to pay $25 a month anymore.

Back then she was only making about $300 a month!

The first thing to go are luxuries and some people feel bad about putting only 50 cents into the plate, because it's all the free cash they have. They can no longer put $2 or $5 each Sunday. It makes them feel weird so they avoid going and avoid the weirdness.

Your assessment is essentially correct. The chief problem with most universities is that their standards are too lax to filter out the religious extremists who take up time and space, but not even begin to understand rudimentary science.
