If you hadnt seen your husband in 18 months..and his daughter is only 23 months old...would YOU "suck it up" ? I miss him...

Do you honestly think I could give someone the trail they deserve when my mind is on the fact that my husband is waiting for me after I havnt seen him for nearly two years? That isnt fair to the person who's case I'm on, and it isnt fair to me.

I've been called in several times, there are basically two ways unless you're a student or are over 65. Either way, you have to give up a day, but these will get you out.

First, at or near the beginning of the day, you'll be asked to raise your right hand and swear an oath which ends in the words, "so help me God." Don't raise your hand and keep your mouth shut. You'll get called up before the judge who administered the oath and asked why you didn't swear to it. Tell them you're an athiest and don't believe in God so you can't swear to something you don't believe in.

Second, if you should get picked as one of about 20 possible jurors, you'll be escorted to a courtroom where the lawyers will introduce themselves and their clients and tell you a little about the case. Then, they'll ask for a show of hands for people who can't objectively try the case. Raise your hand. If its a civil case, tell them the person who is doing the suing is only in it for the money and there's no way you could find for them. (I've done this 3 times and I always get sent home.) If its a criminal case, tell them (the judge) you think all criminals should be executed...you hate all gang-bangers...you hate guys with earrings or women with tattoos, whatever.....think of a good reason based upon the case. It works every time. I've never had to serve a day - just waste that one day and that's it.

You have to go the first day anyway in order to give your excuse. However, considering your hubby serves his country, you should suck it up and do your part too. Jury duty is exactly that, a duty that we all have to take part in.

Jury Duty is a responsibility of all citizens. How would you feel if you needed a jury trial, either civil or criminal, and your freedom or your money was in the hands of only the least educated, least informed people?

You can't and you shouldn't. Every AMERICAN should do their civic duty. If you were being sued, you have the right to have a jury hear your case. Therefore, you should do jury duty so that everyone has their right, fair, and impartial date in court.

If you don't have transportation, tell them before you have to report. If you have a young child, tell them. If you lie, you can go to jail.

My father-in-law lied and they issued a warrant for his arrest. When they sent the letter to his house, my husband told the courts that he passed away(which he did). That was the only way they would remove the warrant.

All you need to do is call them and explain. They will be happy to reschedule you for a later date.
