Relegious extremists that excersize and practice segregation on a regular basis are too close minded and/ or arrogant to be open. It always tends to be an All, or Nothing, deal with them.

Acgsk,
I suppose that there a few folks out there who label those who question the Bible as atheists, but most do not. The fact is, that most people don't even know how the modern Bible came into existence. In the year 325 A.D., the roman emperor Constantine, convened the Council of Nicea. He did so, to gain control over the wildly popular and growing faith of Jesus' followers. All of the leaders of the movement were gathered together, to create a new Orthodox faith. Many of the teachings of Jesus were lost at that time. Many pagan teachings were added. Men called "correctors" re-wrote many of the original scriptures to fit the new theology, called "Christianity". All of the writings which disagreed with the new faith, were destroyed. Those church leaders who would not agree with the new format, were exhiled from the Empire, or worse. This is where the "Bible" came from. Even with all the changes that were made, there are still some truths buried within it's pages. You must be careful about forming doctrines from it's contents, however. Jesus came to us, to give a message, both elegant and simple. "The Kingdom of God is within you". When we come to God as humble children, and invite Him into our hearts, He sends His Spirit into us, and bonds with us. We become new creatures, part mortal, part Immortal. The old values of materialism and fear fall away. Love and Wisdom, become the foundation of all our choices. We no longer label people as "believers" and "atheists". We see all people, as potential children of God, and treat them as Jesus did. The only people Jesus condemned while He was on earth, were religious hypocrites.

Well since the only true and Living God is in the Bible, i guess if you don't believe in it. Than you could be several things, a pagan, an Atheist, or some kind of Polytheist or something else. To me none of these make sense because why would you base your life on a dead guy or something somebody made up?

But I would not assume you were an Atheist.

I don't know why people do that. If you don't believe the bible is true you are simply and unbeliever. Being an Atheist is a distinction rather than a personal position of non-acceptance.

You are obviously talking with Christians or Jews. Other Religious groups do not believe in the bible, other than as an historical reference, and would not place such a label on you.

Because the closed minded people that believe in the bible believe that there is no other possible religion, therefore, by default, you MUST be an atheist.

Well, it's wrong to assume things and label people. But I guess if you don't believe in the Bible, people assume you don't believe in the Christian God and they label you an atheist.

Haha. Is that true? I never knew that. I guess I'm an atheist then. Actually ... being called anything other than Christian or Muslim would make me very happy.

The dictionary says
"Atheist:someone who denies the existence of god"
And they aren't labeled, you are what you are, black people are black, white people are white and an Atheist doesn't believe in god, simple as that.

I asked a similar question earlier today:

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtBZQ9HDFeKCJH89Zyyq0IggBgx.?qid=20060727060804AAcG3Df

It's the black/white, good/bad, heaven/hell, God/Satan mentality into which they like to segment things.

Their whole religion is based on a false dilemma, after all...
