If we didn't have a Bible, we could still know from nature that God exists (Psalm 19). However, we wouldn't know what His will for us would be.

Is it common sense to think that life - any kind - came from lifelessness? Is it common sense to think that the universe created itself from nothing? Perhaps, without a Bible, we'd believe some silly book like Origin of Species (written by a man with no biology education) to follow.

If there was no Bible, then I would not be able to prove it trustworthy. If there were no Bible, there would be no way for God to communicate to the masses. If there were no bible, Christianity as we know it would not exist. If there were no bible, I would be an atheist, because the only religion that makes even one iota of sense is christianity.

Atheists? If Christians are just crazy ppl following some silly book, then why do you spend hours on Y!A refuting our claims for Jesus? HMMMMMMM?

cheers!

Contrary to what 1 person said, it is human nature to believe that life can come from non-life. If you've ever read about spontaneous generation, you know what I'm talking about.

Another person said that the Bible prophecised war in the Middle East. Every region (except Antarctica) has had a war. Therefore, predicting that within the next 2000 years there will be a war is not a deep prophecy.

Actually, the church survived just fine without a Bible for the first couple of centuries. They did have copies of the various letters written by the Apostles, but not all had them, and yet they did okay.

In fact, I am committing the Bible to memory so that when it becomes illegal in this country to own one, I'll still have mine. Because eventually people will say that it's "hate" literature. (Kinda like some in Yahoo Answers advocate.)

Common sense is not so common. Creation is staring you in the face and still you question if there is a creator. God gave us the Bible which has lasted thousands of years and still widely read.

Also, what's happening in the middle east has been prophecized since the birth of Israel and the Arabs.

What a good question! The Bible is not the object of our faith. The Bible is the book of instruction, guidance, and discipline of our faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

After Christ ascended into heaven after his resurrection, the early Christians were hunted men and women. They were considered much like we would consider terrorists because they were just a threat to the corrupt and greedy Jewish Hierarchy and to Rome. That is why so many writings and documents inspired by the Holy Spirit and written by the apostles had to be hidden until a time when God saw that it was safe for them to become public.

Our faith is not in the Bible. Our belief is in the Words that were inspired by the Holy Spirit, given by God. Our faith is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was sent, by The Father, to die on a cross and live again in order to victor over death. Jesus left behind His Holy Spirit, so that we could continue walking with Christ even though He would not be present physically anymore.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Of course, "perish" means spiritual death and eternal damnation versus "everlasting life" meaning spiritual life and eternal paradise in heaven.

The scripture that commands Christians to hide the word in our hearts that we might not sin is an admonishment, as well. There are still countries where having the Bible is illegal. China is one of them. Christians have been martyred even in the last century simply for possessing a Bible in Iran, Iraq, and Syria.

Psalms 119:11 - Thy Word have I hid (memorized) in my heart,
That I might not sin against Thee;

There will be a time, once again--even in the United States-- when Christians will be as hunted as the original disciples and Bibles will be illegal. That is prophecy. So Christians must be strong in their faith and diligent to memorize the Words of God---hide them in their hearts--so that when we cannot read our Bibles, we will be able to take from the strength of our hearts in the Words of God what we will need to battle evil in that day.

Well, common sense seems to point that there is an all-powerful God and there is also a little thing called tradition which we go by.

The Bible is strickly a reference giude so to speak. God can mannage our lives through the Holy Spirit. That's the way it's supposed to be anyway.

If there wasn't a compiled writings of the prophets and apostles, I would probably refer to uncompiled writings of the prophets and apostles.

If you believe in relativity as Einstein taught it, then you understand that what's silly is relative...to many folk your question is silly...

I would believe whats in me because God has put his word in me. The bible is used to help remind us of what we should be doing when we don't listen to God in us. Have you read the bible?
