I was fired because I was gay, and I want to file a complaint with the EEOC. How do I do this in Texas?

You cannot file an EEOC complaint because you were fired because you are gay. They have a list if categories that you can file complaints for, and sexual orientation is not on the list. You have to try another route. Your state may have a more expanisve list of categories.

Listen to John Doe.

You're wasting your time with an EEOC complaint -- I read somewhere that 11% of cases are successfully prosecuted, and I think that's optimistic.

It'll also haunt you in your future career whether you win or lose.

Lie about why you were fired ("They were downsizing and my unit was cut") and get another job. May I recommend Fry's book ("101 Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions") to help you through the job interview minefield.

The courts can't make this a fairer society. That tactical mistake is why the civil rights movement has rotted to a standstill in this country. EEOC is a joke, for the most part it just identifies troublemakers who are then later excreted on some pretense or another. If you've ALREADY been fired, you don't have access to the company records and information you'd need to be one of the magical 11% who actually get blood out of a turnip.

You're gonna get through this without the courts system -- you're tough enough (and ultimately, that's what counts --grim determination).
