The Christian theology should be based on Jesus teachings. He commissioned Paul to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. John is the Beloved apostle, he loved the Lord with a Godly love. He lingered the most on the word's of the Lord. As far as theologists go I have no clue. Theology is just that, a point of view by a singular person or many. Theology is what separates Christian views. I study no theology, or doctrines, just the Bible. Cute about the Beatles but where are they today?

The Church created by Constitine a Roman Emporor, was called Catholic, not Christian. Christian is a word for a type of person, not a religion, and while some religions include the word in their name, it is still a type of person. Perhaps John and Paul seem the most influential because they wrote most of the Books in the New Testament, however the Theology is based on the Love that Jesus symbolizes.

John wrote the Gospel of John....which is different than the other 3 Gospels.

John wrote 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John...his letters. He then went on to write the most widely read of the Bible books..Revelation

Paul wrote half of the New Testament from Romans through Hebrews. Romans, 1st & 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Phillipians, Colossians, 1st & 2nd Thessolonians, 1st & 2nd Timothy, Titus, Philemon and Hebrews.

If you removed the contribution of John and Paul you only have 8 books in the New Testament, not 27.

I don't believe it is.

Paul was chosen to evangelize the Christian mission of the Church even though he was making a living exposing and persecuting Christians. He was notified BY JESUS on the road to Damascus after the resurrection.

John's writing defined the new role of GENTILES who accept Christ and his Gospel allegories which reflect this new approach to the formerly exclusive Jewish faith.

If todays Christian theology seems based mostly on these two servants of God then it might seem this way because of their role in illuminating the path for Gentiles and for the format of the a new church.

Paul was the guy who put Jesus's sayings (from the Q document, maybe?) into an actual organized, coherent (sort of) religion. Jesus didn't do that. He just preached. Paul invented most of the theology and made it into a belief that could actually spread.
