Well I am Hispanic and have been involved with an african ameican and he was jerk. But I know not all black men are like that. It all depends on the individuals, yes there will be a difference of backgrounds, religions, etc. And you are aware of all of this from the start. You either have to accept the other and all their belief and ethnic backgrounds, come to some sort of compromise, or get out. What his family says or does is really not an issue, this you and your boyfriends lives not his families. You two have to sit down and talk about all of these issues and come to a compromise. Even with couples that are the same race, their always issues with the families,,especially the moms. So don't worry family, worry about you and your man. That 's what counts. In order for you all to work something out you need to leave the family out of it and things will work out. If your man is more concerned with what his family has to say than what you think, then dump him. But since you say he is sweet, I think you guys can work something out. In the end though one of you will have to give in, it's sad to say but it's usually the woman. But there are worse things, if you have a good man, don't let him go, cuz there are not too many of them. Trust me I know.
Hope that helps.

i dated an african american guy before and i'm latina. he was very sweet, but my dad wasn't very thrilled about us because he always thought that i'd date a latino. but we didn't break up for that reason.
his friends were always trying to break us up, so we defended our relationship more, than actually having one. i'd date outside my race/religion again, i personally like it, it's also a way for me to learn about another culture or religion.
you 2 will find a way to work something out...i liked a guy who is muslim, but i'm catholic and i DID think about the whole relgion thing and wondering if i'd have to convert to his or if i could stay catholic.
stay with him if you really like him, if his family doesn't accept you, well then that's too bad for them, they're gonna have to accept you. his parents are going to have to learn that they can't control who their son falls in love with...it's not their choice. at least you'll have him and the love between you two.
hope it all works out.

If you have not been going out a year, try visiting each others church. Also consider searching for a religion togethe. The best thing is to not go crazy over it yet, you are dating him, and you are not engaged yet.
