God speaks to us in many ways. The church acts like God spoke to every other shepherd and goat herder in the old days, but for some reason he is no longer interested in talking to us.
You need to ask our self how likely is this?
All religion is man made it all makes the same claim that it comes from God. This claim is partially true but people can never stand to leave Gods word alone. This is because god’s word is consistent and does not mesh well with their personal preconceptions and bigoted ideas. So they make little changes here and there injecting their thoughts into the mix tainting the word with nonsense. For this reason you should not put much faith in these ideas about god that come from others. If God wants to tell you something He is perfectly capable of telling you directly.
Maybe you should stop reading what other people say about God and ask him to tell you what he wants you to do directly. Stop reading; clear you mind and listen. When you pray get you’re talking over as soon as possible and listen. He is trying to talk to you but your mind is full of nonsense from the bible and other sources. Don’t be surprised if what you hear does not sound much like what you have been told about God. You will be hearing Gods message minus the nonsense.
In your bible study have you ever heard of the small still voice? You can't hear it if your mind is otherwise occupied with other people’s silly ideas about God. Just try it you will be surprised.
There is actually a book called course in miracles that teaches you how this is done. Many people have had great success with what it taught them.
It is worth the expense and effort.
If I can assist you feel free to email.
love and blessings

Why doesn't man live to be 900 years anymore?
Before Noah God could walk with man, and man would not die from seeing God.
Moses had to be put into the cleft of a Mt. as God waked by, then Moses could see the change in the land after God walked by, but even for him to see God would mean death.
Most of the time God is only heard by the hearer.
BUT:
Christ was bathtised by John the bathtest and all there heard, "This is my son whom I'm well pleased"
Paul on the way to Damascus struck by a light that surrounded him, his men with him could hear 2 voices in the light much like hearing two people in the next room talking but not able to make out what they say.
Most of the time when God speaks to man or a man it is heard only by that man, there are many forms this will take.
A loud voice behind or above you (only the hearer hears).
Within you
Or thou another person who does not know they are speaking (as if to them they went to sleep for a minute [the speaker])
There are hundreds of examples where a person has herd a voice saying do something, and they do it and it saved there lives.

In Genesis it says that Adam and Eve heard God. As far as the rest, the bible also talks about angels being God's messengers. It also may be like today. During prayer or a voice inside of you, but in order for you to know the voice of the Lord you must have a relationship with Him. Every voice in your head is not God's
Moses is credited for the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy which are called the Pentateuch. These books cover creation to his own death at the end of Deuteronomy.
In the Bible it says the God showed Moses everything from the beginning of time and he wrote what he saw.
He does speak to us, are we listening? Many of us are not in relationship with God like we should be. When I need an answer from Him I get it. Sometimes I have heard a voice so clear, I have turned to see who said it.

Before the Fall the relationship between God and Adam and Eve would have been the perfection that God intended and each would be attuned to the other. What the 'language' was we can't start to imagine but we will experience it when, as Christians, we see God face-to-face.
After the Fall? The Holy Spirit has always been there and we know that throughout OT times people received special gifts and knowledge through him. The language would be unspoken in the human sense but would probably be a strong sense of personal conviction.
Also, at times, people have met angels who spoke to them in their understood tongue.
Who wrote Genesis? Possibly Moses who collected the oral tradition and wrote it down during the 40 years of wilderness wandering.
God spoke most plainly through Jesus (Hebrews 1:1) and the account of that is written in the NT. This is THE authoritative voice of God. Sometimes God still uses that 'inner voice' to speak to people but this must always be checked against scripture as God will never contradict what is written there.

I don't know how he talked to Adam and Eve, I wasn't there. But I do know that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, which include Genesis. In some bibles, at the beginning of each book, a little bit of information will be provided about it. In mine, it says who wrote the book, when, why, where, and other things. Actually, the writers of the bible didn't actually come up with the stuff. Yes, physically they wrote it, but God was communicating through them. But, again, I wasn't around 3,000 years ago , so I can't give you all the details. When you get to heaven, ask God. I'm sure he'll be able to answer your question.

Assuming you really want to know, I'll do my best.
First, Moses wrote the first five books of the Old Testament. All the information from before him was passed down verbally. Now before you say that verbal transmission is not reliable and can easily change from one person to the next, I'll just ask..Do you know the words to Row Row Row your boat, or Mary had a little lamb, or any number of songs, poems, nursery rhymes? When retold and retold the information tends not to change.
Now, God walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, so it can be assumed He spoke verbally with them.
God also appeared to Moses as a burning bush so it can be implied he also heard God verbally.
Noah heard the voice of God, so it is difficult to say if it was verbal or in his head.
Job's encounter with God may have been more like a dream or vision experience.
To hear God you do not have to hear a voice with your ears. Haven't you ever heard your name being called only to look around and there not be anyone around..
The bible is believed to be, by those who believe in it, inspired by God, and written by men. Kind of like God was giving dictation to man and he only wrote what he heard God say.
If God created all things then He could communicate in any way He wants.
I hope this helps a little.

Q1. How did Adam, Noah, Job, etc. talk to God? (I'm paraphrasing.)
A. I'm just guessing here, but Elijah the Tishbite prophet talked with God on mount Horeb. In I Kings,[1] it clearly states that the Lord was not in the earthquake, wind or fire. But then there was a still, small voice, and apparently, that was He, the Lord of hosts, speaking to Elijah.
Goodness knows in what other ways the Lord may have spoken to his prophets. We do know that God talked to Moses using the burning bush.[2] In Job, we know that God talked to Job in a whirlwind.[3] As for others, examples are few and far between, so I hope I was able to help thus far.
Q2. How do people know about Adam and Eve?
A. From the account in Genesis, the first book of Moses. As for how it got there, explanations are several. Perhaps Adam himself kept records (and Noah and Abraham and so on) and they fell into Moses' hands. Perhaps (as my church believes) Moses had a vision of his ancestors.[4] Perhaps God told him. Who knows?

Hope this helps!

I think many times God spoke to them face-to-face. I think other times God spoke to them (and us for that matter) through the Holy Ghost. I love the story of Elijah going to talk to God: God wasn't in the fire, or earthquake, but in the still small voice.
How do we know about Adam & Eve. I can think of two ways: 1) Revelation - or god telling a Prophet, or 2) They kept records which were passed down well enough to be written down with the records of Moses.
Best wishes

At first when sin had not entered, God walked with and spoke to Adam and Eve directly.
Sin is what seperates us from God...even to this day.
The price of sin is blood, i.e. death.
To see the face of God [as a sinner] is to die, which is why God only allowed Moses to see His back as His glory passed before him.
To show His love and mercy, after sin entered the Garden, you will notice that it was God's voice that moved through the Garden - not His person - inquiring of Adam and Eve.
Rather than justly destroy them, or let them eat from the Tree of Life - causing eternal seperation from God - God mercifully sent them out of the Garden, even killing an animal and clothing them.
It's all about grace and mercy.

During the time of Adam and Eve, (for me)God spoke personally to them. they can see Him I guess although it was not clearly stated i the Bible. sometimes God speaks through them in dreams, in visions, only they can describe the beautiful face of our Creator for they were given the privilege. He did it because He is the Author of everything and nothing is impossible with God... maybe HE used mental telepathy sometimes or sort of.. He may have spoken to them in a commanding clear voice (as above-mentioned) for He is the Owner of all creation.. He is the best science&technology (although it is unexplainable) that ever existed for He can do impossible things even upto the present..
"Christians consider that the origin and ultimate author of the Bible is God, but it is also clear that He has uced human gifts and skills in the process of puting His message into writing.
2 Timothy 3:16 says that 'all Scripture is God-breathed' and 2Peter1:21 that 'men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit,' a claim that God communicated His words in some way through people. In the same way it is reasonable to imagine that God worked through those who were involved in the process of writing down and translating his message.
Old testament (old covenant-agreement between God and Israel and based on Law) how it became what it is:
1. Written accounts, often using older writings, were carefully preserved from the earliest times and verified by oral tradition. these were collected together.
2. Editing adn re-editing brought together collections of material and new material was added. groups of prophets(called schools) saved the work of great prophets. Scholars updated the books thereby passing the living tradition.
New testament: letters of Paul are probably earliest writings and preserved in the communities which they were addressed.Gospels:maybe from oral and written traditions similar to old testament."
"Over the last hundred years or so we have gained understanding of the history of Jewish nation as it relates to world history. This is partly a result of the work of archaeologists combined with scientific ways of dating their discoveries."
We have different views about this but one thing is for sure that there is a living God... who made all things possible!thanks and God bless! c",)
