I think that it is wonderful that your friend rescue's dogs and takes care of them, but no matter how much you love animals you have to know where to draw the line. 16 dogs is too much for any one person no matter how much time you have and love. It is not fair to the dogs to be in with that many other. It sounds like your friend may have crossed the line from being a rescuer to being a collector. I would say that 1-2 should be enough at a time. Exspecially living in a trailer. I would try and get her to give up some of them. It is not healthy for her or the dogs. Caring for animals is great, but please let her know where the line needs to be set, without hurting her feelings.

That sounds like too many to be sanitary. It's great that she has companions and is helping the animals, but it should not be a strain on her budget or health. She must be lying when she rescues them, because a rescue would not send a dog to a home with 15 other dogs living in a trailer together.

How much land does she have? Having 16 dogs and living in a trailer on a small amount of land may not be the best for the dogs but if there is plenty of land for the dogs to run and play then there shouldn't be a problem.

It would be dependant on how much room in and out of house that was available, ability to care for a number of dogs, and what the town allows.
Many towns in my state require you to get a kennel license if you have more than 3 dogs.
16 is way too many for anyone to have in a home. Financially alone, you'd have to have some big bucks. It is not fair to the dogs to live like that. I'd call someone.

that is a lot of dogs, but as long as she is keeping them fed, healthy and in a clean environment then there is nothing wrong with rescuing dogs.
Are they small or big dogs?
Are they all comfortable?
Fed?
Healthy?
Clean?
Of good temperament?
Taken care of?
As long as she is taking care of them properly it's no ones business how many dogs she has.
One except in there... depends on which city she lives in and if she is in the city limits. Some places have limits on how many pets people can have. She should check that out.

I salute your friend's desire to rescue needy dogs! However, sixteen dogs in a trailer is inhumane and unhealthy for the pooches and for your friend There is a known psychological condition that causes some people to adopt large numbers of animals, far beyond their capability to properly care for them. You can see it often on the show "Animal Cops," on the Animal Planet channel, where the police have to go in and rescue excessive numbers of animals from someone's home. Please let your local humane society and local animal-control agency know what your friend is up to right away, and try to persuade her to seek counseling for this problem. Also, you might suggest some other activities for her!
Blessings to you!

well i just moved into my first apartment (i'm 18) and i have one senior chi, a puppy chi and a 4 month old kitten and it seems to work. when i lived withmy mom we had three dogs. all small but kind of like a medium, small, extra small. if you live in a small place only one or two small dogs. if your place is not too small maybe a medium sized dog or two small. the bigger the dog, the moer space you'll need so if you've gota huge place you can have up to three big dogs but i wouldn't suggest more than three of any dog. just remember.. the vet bills, immunizations, rabies, food, dishes, beds, toys.. it all adds up and it can get pretty pricey. especially if one of the dogs you get may have a medical problem in the future. hope this helped. :]

I saw a similar case the other day on tv but the guy had 49 dogs. I know, its crazy. But I believe the Humane Society said you could have up to 6 depending on the size of the home.

16 is alot, but my uncle has 19, so I can see her dillemma. If she can keep up with the high maintenance of dogs then great for her. My uncle made sure they were spade after the last litter, so I hope your friend has conscidered that, too. It seems like she enjoys rescuing animals, but have you conscidered advising her to try to get people to adopt them, there are good people out there who would love to have a dog and 16, over time maybe too much to handle.
