Irish: Loughlin: not a nice name in Ireland: An old childs rhyme that others would use to anyone who came from Loughlinstown (Co. Dublin)or named Loughlin: 'In Loughlinstown, the cart broke down, the poor old man got grounded, The horse got shy and pissed in his eye and the poor old man got drownded'.
What is your next choice...................

What does Lochlan mean overseas? When naming a child, think about how children and adults will be able to say the name. Many parents name their children names that the child will sometimes hate because of how they are picked on in school or in the neighborhood. It would also be a good idea to have children and adults try out the name. Just so that you can hear the name roll off the tough.

Yeah, I like the name, but not really the spelling. How about maybe Locklan or Loklan?
Lochlan reminds me of the Loch Ness Monster as well... ;)

Interestingly enough I was just thinking about that name last night because I used to be a big fan, but I forgot about it. I really do like it. Some alternatives to spelling it are Lochlyn or Lockelyn, but I like the one you have...Lochlan. I really do like it...it gives off a romantic/medeival kind of feel to it.

I think if you're going to go with a very specifically cultural sounding name like that you need to consider if it matches with your surname. For example, I think it would sound silly to have a obviously celtic first name with a spanish sounding surname (such as: Lachlan Gonzales). If you have a celtic sounding surname then it's fine.
Also, consider what you're child's initials will be. For example, if you're surname was Lee, and you intended to use the middle name Oliver, your child's initials would end up being LOL. They probably wouldn't thank you for that.
Otherwise, I say go for whatever you like. The suggestions others have given are very common names in America, but here in the UK Lachlan would be much more common than Logan. You can't assume your child will never travel.

Actually I do. Not too sure if I like the spelling though. Maybe Locklen or perhaps Locklan. I never heard of it before. I chose different names for my children as well, because our last name is very common. I think it is refreshing no matter how you decide to spell it. See which way you like best when you spell out your last name with it.

The baby is yours to name. You could do a web search for the name and see what comes up. As for popular here, don't worry about that. When you choose a name for a baby think about how it sounds when you have to yell it to get your son's attention. Funny story, my middle is named Esther and someone said that is a funny name for a boy - I had to tell them she was a girl. Think about that as well.

I like it because it's unique...Scottish, right? Yeah, you won't find many Lochlan's in the U.S. I would spell it just like that.
