fence

Get a fence, or if your area has leash laws, get some dog treats, lure the dog over to you, give him a treat, take him by the collar, call animal control and have animal control cite the owners for not obeying the leash laws. Anyone who lets their dog run around whenever/wherever needs to get a wake-up call about that.

If it's a matter of people out walking their dogs letting the dogs go in your yard, people in my area who don't like that will usually put a little sign up in their yard saying "Please keep dogs off".

Best way is to put a fence around your yard. Besides keeping dogs out, a nice-looking fence can increase the value of your property.

A water hose works well. Best method I have found is to capture & hold the dog until the dog catcher picks it up. This sends a clear message to the owners & takes care of the problems in your yard!

You could always throw a couple fire crackers in the yard [not AT the dogs] and that will scare them. After a couple of times they will avoid you like the plague!
Otherwise, if it becomes too big of a problem... call the cops. There ARE leash laws!!!

I don't know how well it works, but I read in a book a couple of years ago that YOUR urine tends to deter them. It is also listed as a way of keeping YOUR dog IN the yard. It sounds wierd, I know. The book suggested urinating into a container and sprinkling it along the boundaries... I wouldn't do it straight, though... they can arrest you for that... LOL.

You can get an ultrasonic emitter. It sends out high pitched frequencies around the area of your house. Or get a fence.

Or talk to your neighbors about controlling their pets. Most states have a pet containment law, and it is just irresponsible and rude for people to let pets run wild anyway. If they will not cooperate, you can call animal control.

Probably fence, but if they are digging maybe try a fence that goes deeper in the ground?

put up a fence...talk to the owners about keeping their pets on a leash...if they are strays, call the local animal control(or you could even call them if your neighbors refuse to keep their pets leashed).
