Is there any way of getting the mixer bit out, without ruining the bottom of the bread..

That is one of the reasons I don't bake in my bread machine. The other is that it has too thick a crust and hard.
Use the dough setting, letting it run full time, and then remove the dough, place in a greased loaf pan and let rise until about a inch above the rim. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about a half hour.

Compromise and use the breadmaker to do the mixing, rising, punchdown steps.

When the dough has finished the above steps, turn it out of the breadmaker, form into a loaf shape, place into a lightly greased loaf pan (or leave it loose on a cookie sheet - strewn with corn meal first) and allow to rise a final time until twice it's original size covered with a tea-towel in a warm place.

Bake in a pre-heated 375 F (gas mark 5) oven approx 25-30 minutes or until golden and baked through.

try using less bread and maybe a better brand bread maker. i tried it on my own bought a cheap one for 50 pounds and the bread was fine, then this broke and spent 100 pounds for a bread maker because what i wanted was out of stock and the bread is absolutely M&S quality

Use a plastic mixer like me. Hey presto no mess. Lousy tasting bread though!

That is precisely the reason why I frequently surrender to the temptation to bake bread the old fashioned way in the oven.

make the dough in the bread machine on the dough cycle, then takeit out and cook it in the oven. it only takes about half hour to cook in the ovenn as opposed to 1 hour in the bread machine. make sure you cook it on the bottom shelf though.

Place a layer of baking paper before you pour in your mixture and when it's bake, just put it out using the paper so it will remain perfect!

Making bread is surprisingly easy and tastes better.
Try making your own, you'll be surprised.
