There is no such law given in Qur'an which prescribed death punishment for leaving Islam. There is absolutely no complusion in religion.

2:256 Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

The Muslims are allowed to leave Islam and their punishment will be with God on Judgement Day. Muslims have taken Bible blasphemy laws and included it in their hadith books as the punishment law. You can't blame God for wrongly importing the Bible laws into the religion.
