Can some people still be allergic to chinese crested dogs?

My mom has been feeling sick lately but chinese cresteds are supposed to be good for people with allergies. I am so confused, please help.

To try to clear up some confusion -

People who suffer an allergic reaction to dogs - or any other animal - are almost always NOT reacting to hair, but rather to dander - the small particles of dead skin that every animal (including humans) continuously sheds as our outer layer of skin refreshes itself. So you cannot get rid of dander completely, as it is the result of a natural, necessary and continuous process. You can only work to keep it under control with regular grooming. Animals with more hair tend to have lots of this dander trapped within the hair as it comes off of the outer skin layer, so a person with allergies will react more violently toward an animal with lots of hair (which traps lots of dander). If someone reacts toward a Chinese Crested it only means that their allergy is more severe than normal. Grooming your dog regularly will certainly help control the problem. I would certainly not recommend bathing your dog as often as some people have suggested - there are a number of good waterless shampoos that you can use between baths that will get rid of dander and be much healthier for your dog than excessive bathing. Check your local per store or try www.petedge.com. I can recommend one called Winner's Circle that works very well for us.

The good news is that our bodies do adjust to our environment so the likelihood is that if you keep your dog reasonably well groomed, even though your mother seems to be fairly acutely allergic, her allergies will diminish over time as her body adjusts to the level of dander present in her environment.

They are better for people with allergies because of the lack of hair (for the most part). However, people that are severely allergic can still be allergic to animal dander (dead skin). Usually an allergy medication will help, like Zyrtec or Allegra.

You can also help your mom by washing the dog as frequently as is healthy for the breed.

well i am still in highschool but i want to be a veterinarian. hehe. yes chinese crested can still cause alergies. yes the dog has little to no hair but it still loses some of the hair it has. it helps to have a crested if u have allergies. try getting an air filter. and also it may not be ur dog that is causing the allergies. pollen mold anything can. well i hope ur mom gets better.:)

Yes, depending on what the alletrgy is to.

If you are allergic (or she is) to dog hair, than a crested will work.

If you (or she) is allergic to dog Dander, than there is nothing you can do but not keep dogs.

Dander are flakes of dead skin, all dogs (and humans) for that matter have them. In fact ,the majority of "dust" in houses isreally just dead skin.

Hairless Chinese Cresteds have a problem with pimples, some worse than others, are you sure this is not the problem?? How often is she bathed and her skin taken care of with lotions and stuff/ I own a Puff, but know of someone who owns a hairless, actually several people, I will try to contact them for you and see what they suggest.

Well even the small amount of hair they have they still have the capabilities to produce dander and that's usually the reason why people are allergic to dogs, because of the dander so yes.

Even a Crested will have some dander. Do you have a hairless or a powderpuff? If it is a hairless you can bath him every other day with a mild shampoo.

sometimes its the dandruff of the dogs that people are allergic to, the dog itself not the hair. So yes, your mom may be allergic to the dog, but not in the way you were thinking of.
