Selective service is a registration for the draft. However, we have no draft in the United States currently.

Men18-26 must sign up. If they don't they can't receive federal aid for college. A conscientious objector is someone who, for moral and/and or religious reasons will not fight in a war. If a man is granted C.O. status he could still be drafted, but would serve in a non-combat job, maybe a hospital.

Someone can't just out of the blue declare themselves as a C.O. There has to be a previous history of pacificism, like being a Quaker.

If you are worried about there being a draft in the U.S., stop worrying cause it ain't gonna happen. It would be political suicide for both the democrats and the republicans. One reason there was such protests against the war in Vietnam and there isn't much protest about the war in Iraq is because then there was a draft and now there isn't.

They will allow convicted felons to enlist before having another draft.

Selective servie is a new term for the "DRAFT" used back during vietnam. It only applies to males, who must register when they turn 18. If the world ever gets bad enough it could be used, but short of WW3, it is unlikely. the term concencious objector will get you out of the military now adays. However back in the day it would just land you in some crappy support position supporting the fighting men. If you have any other questions email me at bored_army_soldier@yahoo.com

good luck!

The selective service refers to the draft, so I wouldn't worry about too much. But, in the draft, the government will send to where they need the most replacements. And yes, as a co (conscientious objector) you still have to serve and fight in some capacity, even though you may object to killing and war (Mormons, Amish, Jehovah Witness)

That means that when they run low of people to send to die in wars they will institute a draft through the pepole that signed up for selective service when they turned 18.

It's basicly a legal draft program......and yes they select where they need you.....so if you hear that a draft is comming, then it's best to hurry and join, that way you go where you want.
