I'm getting married by a Justice of the Peace on August 19th. I would like to let my friends and family know that we "finally" did it, what is the proper ettiqute for sending out this type of announcement. We're not going to have a reception or anything until next year, (if at all) but I still want everyone to know. (And hopefully send cash! :-) > LOL

okay, okay, c'mon people,.....do you not see the humor in my statement? if i was "trolling" for gifts, i would not be getting married at the justice of the peace would i? Good grief, some people need to relax, stop taking everything so seriously!

Something like this would be good:

Just Married!

Because you’ve shared in their lives
by your friendship and love, we are
very proud to share the happy news.
BRIDE
daughter of PARENTS
and
GROOM
son of PARENTS
were married in a small wedding
on DATE
LOCATION
CITY, STATE

BRIDE and GROOM now reside at
ADDRESS
CITY, STATE, ZIP

You could either have them printed like invitations or get an invitation kit (Staples, Party City, Michaels, etc all sell them) and print the announcements yourself. Mail them after August 19th.

The site I've listed in the source has a lot of different wording if you want to try something different.

It is perfectly acceptable to send out a wedding announcement after you were married by a Justice of the Peace. Also, if you know that you WILL be having a reception next year, you can include "Save the Date" cards for the reception when you send out the announcements.

I am a rep for Regency Thermographics and there is a search engine regarding the appropriate wording for your announcements http://aphroditescreations.regency.ac/

Good luck!

It would be appropriate to send out a wedding announcement AFTER August 19. Google wedding invitation and info sites for specific language, but what you will be saying is something along the lines of "Jack and Jill Doe and pleased to annouce their marriage to each other on August 19." (There are prettier ways of saying it, of course.) Whatever you do, do NOT mention gifts, cash, or a party - information like that should be passed on by word of mouth.

Congratulations on your marriage!

Make up cards that look like invitations (you can get kits to do this on your own computer at Target or Office Depot), that say something like

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

are pleased to announce
the marriage of their daughter

Jane Marie
to
Joseph Brown

Saturday, August 19, 2006
Yourtown, California

Or whatever wording is appropriate, if it's not your parents making the announcement.

This site is the end-all-be-all of proper wedding announcement etiquette-- they are sent immediately after the ceremony has taken place:

...and please tell me you are not seriously trolling for cash gifts-- that would really crass and tasteless, so I hope you are kidding. A wedding is not a fundraiser.

Also, rather than a delayed reception, which would just annoy people and look like bad manners and a tacky "re-run", invite people to a first anniversary dinner-dance instead.

Good luck! your wedding date is my birthday, btw.

Since you are simply having a Justice of the Peace wedding, you should simply tell them when/where you are going to get married.

You can send an announcement after you've done the deed. But please, no gift registeries or gifts of any sort mentioned anywhere in the announcement.

Call them on the phone if you know their numbers, or email them.
