Why do people keep pointing out that the commandments say Thou shall not murder, instead of kill. Why is murder so different?
I look it up in a dictionary the definition of murder is To kill deliberately. I understand that we can kill someone accidentally, but in a war its not an accident its murder, because its killing deliberately, even if it is done for GOD!

Watch out - you will get a lot of rationalizations from those who claim to be closest to God!

They know just how to justify their evil actions - they will quote bible chapter and verse to you.

There is a big difference between murder and killing. Look at any state's or nation's laws on murder. They allow for differences between first degree murder, accidental homicide, self defense, etc. They also recognize that killing in time of war is not murder. It is an act of defense. It is protecting yourself, your family, and your nation -- (or the people, family and nations to your are defending). There has never been a culture, society, or legal system in the world that punishes its own solders as murderers when acting in defense of that nation. There are times when killing is justified. War for defense is one of those times.

War is different, not better, just different. Murder comes from malice, many war killings are not personal. Personal hatred in heart is like terrorists murdering innocent people.

The big difference - we are not to kill out of malice or with the intention of bringing harm to another without cause.

To kill as punishment for an offense is to kill with cause.

Killing in war is self-defense, permitted in the Bible. Even Jesus agreed to the need for self-defense as He instructed His followers to obtain swords.
