I believe it is the romance factor feeling and just savoring every moment of the kiss.

My guess would be that we close our eyes because when you get that close to someone it is hard to see them properly, so you close your eyes so they don't have to adjust. If you stare at someone very close up, your eyes, which normally take two pictures (one from each eye) of an object and overlay them to create depth perception, get confused by the two eyes on the person's face. Your eyes think that those are two pictures of the same eye, so they get overlayed and it looks like you are staring at a cyclops. Who wants to kiss a cyclops? Not me, so I close my eyes when I kiss.

we instinctively close our eyes when something- or someone!!- gets too close in order to protect the eye itself. its a reaction aimed at preserving eyesight. but it does make a kiss so sweet!!

We instinctively want to concentrate on one perception/sensation only. Or wicked people say, it is because the partner does not match our requirements.

that close you would go cross eyed, that would ruin the kiss cause you would start laughing.
